An Eielson Air Force Base airman was found dead Thursday while on temporary duty at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.

Tech. Sgt. Phillip Coley was assigned to 354th Civil Engineer Squadron and has been stationed at Eielson since February 2019, according to a news release issued by the fighter wing's public affairs office.

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations is investigating the circumstances surrounding Coley’s death, according to the release.

Coley was from Oakboro, North Carolina, and enlisted in the Air Force in March 2006. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Coley's commander, Col. Benjamin Bishop, offered condolences to Coley's friends, family and coworkers.

“Our team is heartbroken by the passing of one of our airmen,” Bishop said. “This loss weighs heavily on the hearts and minds of every member of our Eielson family."
