FAIRBANKS — The Senate Education Committee will meet this week to discuss the Common Core State Standards and Alaska’s Academic Standards.
The meeting, which will take place today and Wednesday at the Legislative Information Office in Anchorage at 733 West 4th Ave., room 105. It will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The public can access the meeting by going to their local Legislative Information Office or going online at akl.tv.
The meeting will include testimony from a wide range of stakeholders, including those involved in the creation of the standards, critics of the standards, teachers, students and Alaska Department of Education and Early Development leaders.
Pete Lewis, Fairbanks North Star Borough superintendent, will testify along with several other school district officials. West Valley freshman class president Kobe Rizk will testify, as will Lathrop High School teachers Christopher Benschoof and Tim Parker.
