FAIRBANKS — Tanana resident Vernon Stickman Sr. begins his second suicide awareness walk down the Yukon River at noon Friday, stopping at communities along the river to talk to schoolchildren and villagers about healthy lifestyles and suicide prevention.

Last year, the 56-year-old Athabascan started his healing mission running and walking from Tanana to Ruby and on to Galena, a distance of about 175 miles.
