FAIRBANKS — An 18-year-old man shot himself in the head early Thursday morning in Fairbanks, suffering a life-threatening injury.

The victim, who Alaska State Troopers did not identify, was initially transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital but was later flown to Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said.

Troopers did not release any details about the shooting or the victim and said only that it happened at “a business located off of Pike’s Landing Road.” Troopers were notified of the shooting at 6:22 a.m.

Officers from the Fairbanks, Fairbanks International Airport and University of Alaska Fairbanks police departments assisted troopers with on-scene investigation and interviews, Peters said.
