FAIRBANKS — A fire broke out at a two story home south of Harding Lake on the Richardson Highway, according to a Salcha Fire and Rescue news release.

The fire was reported at 7:07 a.m. Friday at 10233 Richardson Highway.  A passerby reported the fire because the home’s occupant was busy fighting the fire and did not have telephone service.

Salcha Fire and Rescue responded with three engines and 10 firefighters. They kept the fire to the main building, sparing a boiler building and a shop.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The homeowner was not a subscriber to the fire and rescue service and will be billed for the response.

The property was insured.
