FAIRBANKS - Frigid, icy conditions coupled with dense ice fog are making travel hazardous on the Richardson Highway near Fairbanks this morning.

The Fairbanks Police Department sent out a Nixle alert just after 10 a.m. advising drivers to use caution on the Richardson Highway and to keep their headlights on. The roads are icy with limited visibility. Multiple accidents have been reported.

A dense fog advisory is in effect through 4 p.m. today. The National Weather Service says visibility is reduced to less than a quarter mile in many areas. Temperatures in the minus 40s and minus 50s are expected to persist through the afternoon.

This story will be updated.
