FAIRBANKS—Arctic Light Elementary School on Fort Wainwright was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after the school received a bomb threat.

Students at the school were evacuated and moved to the School Age Center, building 4166 on Neely Road. The school district attempted to contact parents and tell them their students could be picked up from there instead of the school.

The school received the threatening call at approximately 1 p.m., prompting school administrators to place the school in lock-down mode, according to district spokeswoman Sharice Walker. Administrators then contacted military police, who arrived and began evacuating students.

The call appeared to have been an automated or robotic call, according to Fort Wainwright spokesman Allen Shaw, which would be similar to those received by more than a dozen of the district's schools in spring 2015.

Walker said the decision to evacuate students was made by military police, who have jurisdiction on the post.
