FAIRBANKS - The North Pole “armed prowlers” warned about in a flyer circulating on Facebook have been identified as a couple of embarrassed Airsoft players.
A black and white photograph of a pistol-wielding man in a T-shirt was posted this week on Facebook with a warning that this and another man in a fuzzier photograph had been seen “prowling” around homes in the area of Plack and Dawson roads in North Pole.
Alaska State Troopers looked into the reports and spoke to the two men. They said they were playing with Airsoft guns, realistic-looking replica weapons that shoot plastic pellets, said trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen.
The men did inadvertently trespass on private land during their game, but there’s no indication they were casing homes to burglarize, she said.
“They were told about the stir that has arisen from this, and they realize they were mistaken, and they won’t do it again,” she said.
