Young students from Spruce Tree Montessori School dropped off a pile of happiness at the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner last week.

A colorful pile of paper hearts concealed peace messages, as only children can write them. Each heart concealed a special message, offering wishes like: “feel the love” or “have courage.”

My personal favorite: “I wish you rice and beans.”

I made the rounds from editorial to advertising and even the press room, to share the unexpected wishes from these youngsters.

Employees at the newspaper weren’t the only lucky recipients. Other organizations and businesses also received a personal visit. They left the newspaper office a much happier place than when they arrived. More will be shared about this peace project in the coming week.
