ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska State Troopers say a woman has died in a collision with the moose on the Richardson Highway northeast of Valdez.

Troopers say the single-vehicle collision occurred Wednesday evening in the Tonsina area near mile 75 of the highway.

The woman's name was not immediately released.

Responding troopers found the woman's 2006 Acura vehicle off the road in the trees. Troopers say the top of the vehicle was ripped off.

According to troopers, the woman sustained severe head injuries and showed no signs of life.

Troopers tried to resuscitate the woman, to no avail. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:15 PM Wednesday.

The body was being sent to the state medical examiner's office.

Tonsina is located 52 miles northeast of Valdez.
