JUNEAU, Alaska - A Senate vote is pending on a bill aimed at advancing an in-state natural gas pipeline.

The Senate Finance Committee advanced its version of HB4 Thursday.

It contains provisions that supporters say the Alaska Gasline Development Corp. needs to get a project to an open season. At that point, officials can gauge whether there is sufficient interest for a project to advance.

Four of the committee's members recommended the bill pass. Others offered no recommendation or that HB4 be amended.

The House must agree to the Senate changes or the bill will go to a conference committee.

The city of Valdez launched a PR campaign to defeat HB4, arguing a large gas line would be better for Alaska. HB4 supporters said they are tired of waiting for a big line.
