JUNEAU, Alaska - U.S. Sen. Mark Begich says he successfully enrolled in a health insurance plan on the online marketplace open to Alaskans.
In doing so, Begich says he gave up an employer contribution of 75 percent of his premium, which members of Congress are eligible to receive if they sign up through a Washington, D.C., marketplace.
Begich says he wanted the same experience as other Alaskans and felt this was only fair.
He says he had no problems completing his enrollment online.
Begich says there have been marked improvements in the site within the last week or so, and he says he was assured by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that as of Monday morning the subsidy calculator that had not been working for Alaska was working.
