Statehood fireworks postponed indefinitely
Published Sunday, January 4, 2009
FAIRBANKS — The cold weather has forced another postponement of the fireworks celebration in honor of the 50th anniversary of statehood.
The organizers at Festival Fairbanks said the ice fog would make it too hard to see the aerial display, so they will wait a week or two for warmer conditions.
The National Weather Service is predicting highs of 30 below by Friday and Saturday, so perhaps next weekend might be OK, organizers said.

Let's wait until the river breaks up and try to dye it gold again.
(Indefinitely is correct.)
.
Was confused by Channel 11 streaming message last night saying fireworks were "cancelled." Wish folks would consider carefully the difference between cancelled and postponed; the difference in word choice matters.
Yep...guess that's what happens when the flame freezes on the match...hard to get the fuse lit on the fireworks.
It's funny that we consider highs in the negative thirties to be warm enough to watch fireworks. Only in Alaska...
i agree glow! the other day, my husband said that if he woke up and it was only 30 below, he would be happy! i told him that was probably the not funniest funny thing he had ever said. again, only in alaska!
