Lies

To the editor:

I read the letter from Mike Swan in the Aug. 28 edition of the News-Miner and was rather appalled to see a lot of the outright fabrications being propagated by the Republican Party mouthpieces.

Here it is, plain and simple: Rove found out in 2004 that you can damage an opponent by making up lies and repeating them often. It worked so well for the Republican Party in 2004 that they are doing it again in 2008. They rely on people being to lazy to check. A nonpartisan Web site I use to check the facts is politifact.com/truth-o-meter/ — it rates things as true, mostly true, half-true, barely true, false and “pants on fire.” They give the details on why they rated it as they did as well (be sure to read these on any issue that you care about). They also check out chain e-mails including the ones referenced in Mr. Swan’s letter.

I am tired of being lied to so the Republicans can have their way. I know all politicians lie, but between the 2004 campaign, the last administration and the 2008 campaign, the Republicans have taken it to a whole new level, going from stretching the truth and taking things out of context, to outright fabrications. Many of these people claim to be Christian, yet think “Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor” does not apply to them.

What disturbs me more than anything else in this election is that McCain is allowing such unethical behavior to be carried out in his name. Does he approve of this tactic, proving that he as unethical as they, or is he just that poor of a leader?

So Rove is the creator of politics. Huh. Gee whiz, did he get a patent? Lord knows that no one ever, EVER lied and repeated them to cause damage to a political opponent before Rove invented it and the Republicans used it. Time to register as a Democrat I guess.

First off try opening a history book.

Second. I know it's going to come as a shock, but Democrats lie to. In fact all politicians lie. We elect politicians based on the lies we like and those that we don't.

Wait a minute...So who is making up the horrible, nasty, cut-throat lies about Sarah trying to destroy her? The Republican media of course! This silly letter has really bad timing!

I thought the DNM was trying to destroy Sarah?

Enough with the one side coverage of this election... There are 3 other people running... can we get some meat on them? Hurricanes are striking the east coast, the government is taking over Freddie and Fanny, and we just promised a billion dollars to Georgia to assist the country with rebuilding efforts... rebuilding... yeah right! We just want your oil too! And Georgia wants us to help rebuild their military... Russia is going to love that! Come on November!! We need crazy Georgie out of office and Cheney out of Europe ASAP!!!

Funny thing about the politifact truth meter>

It seems to have a lot of focus on just one party...

    Now why is that?

user6244 - you're only looking at one page of that site - there is a whole page dedicated to Obama. It actually looks pretty balanced.

    User 6244,
Did you noticed that only one Dem told a "real truth, all the rest work with half truth? That is a good strategy so nobody can call you a lier.

Who cares about the lies being said. If you are a responsible voter, you will do your homework and make your decision based on facts. Quit whining and do what is right for you.

And Mr Obama is 100% truthful?
A simple truth that could be checked was the $26 M in earmarks for a Wasilla mayor. I checked and yes, there was over $ 26 M to the Wasilla area - not the city. But the Truth is: well over $ 21 M were projects by AKDOT, Railroad, Borough, etc. Over $5 M might be the City and included water projects, health center and dispatch center (many small communities apply for such earmarks).
In addition, the so called $20 M city debt includes the state loans for infrastructure.

What I find funny is the claim that someone who's been helping candidates win elections for decades, supposedly learned this evil fact about lying only during his most famous client's *re-election* campaign.

It really is hard to take people seriously when they can't even keep their talking points straight.

How about Nobama's wife getting a million dollar contract after his being elected as a Illinois senator and then miracle of miracles, that hospital getting tons of money from the government. And she wasn't yet proud to be a American?

"I can not tell a lie, I cut that cherry tree down." One of the most famous lies in American history. Proven Washington never said such a thing.
