Alaska delegation splits votes between McCain, Paul

Published Friday, September 5, 2008

FAIRBANKS -- Alaska’s delegates to the Republican National Convention announced 24 votes for John McCain for president - and five for Ron Paul.

Those five weren’t breaking rank, but were following through on a commitment, said Chris Nelson, chairman of the Republican Party of Alaska’s delegation. The ballots were cast by 26 elected delegates and three national committee members from Alaska.

In a state party presidential preference poll earlier this year, Mitt Romney led, Mike Huckabee was a second-place pick, Ron Paul fell into third and McCain was fourth. Delegates are elected to the national convention as voters for a specific candidate.

Delegates originally elected to vote for Romney and Huckabee were released by those candidates and encouraged to vote for McCain, which they did, Nelson said.

Paul did not release the five committed to casting votes for him, Nelson explained.

It is a shame that Paul was not able to garner more national support.

    Wes,
Unfortunately people have become too disassociated with the original intent to understand that he was far more a Constitutionalist than any in recent history.

Too many seem to think the Constitution is out of touch, forgetting to realize that the Founding Fathers were fresh out of a war for freedom and from tyranny. They knew all too well the dangers that could happen when the people were complacent, and tried to keep that from happening.

Paul was a rejuvenating figure, but was demonized by both major parties in order to keep his 'radical' ideas of returning to the Constitution from taking effect. It would have been a great presidency...

The presidential campaign was only the start of this revolution to restore the Constitution. Check out the newly formed "Campaign for Liberty", if you haven't already.

Paul woke up millions to the Federal Reserve being private, to the fraud of the IRS and the hundreds of other unconstitutional agencies that "eat out our substance", to the "divide and conquer" nature of the false left-right paradigm, and to so many other issues. People are beginning to care about liberty again. This is only the start. Paul's run was a huge success. The fact that the establishment tries so hard to shut out Ron Paul, is just an indication of how dangerous we all are to the Fascist/Socialist state that has developed over the past century, especially over the past decade.

Ron Paul was the only honest candidate running in the primaries. A man of honor that the media chose to ignore. People don't really have freedom of choice in this country. We are manipulated by the tv stations with their propaganda disguised as news. I don't understand how McCain became the chosen one for the Reps, when the Republicans don't liked him.

It is just disheartening to see our country spitting at each other about McCain/Obama. They are both more of the same. Ron Paul is a true patriot, a man of character, with wisdom and insight into the ills of this once-great country. In the political world he was our one hope - and we showed our true colors by letting him be buried by the media. Have we turned a corner? Is it too late for this country? It is not too late to learn about Dr. Paul and get informed. Maybe the tide can still be turned toward liberty in years to come.

I have found no presidential candidate that I can trust; I will be writing in Ron Paul.
