VP nomination boosts Palin's ratings in Alaska

Published Thursday, September 4, 2008

FAIRBANKS — The Aug. 29 announcement name Gov. Sarah Palin as presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain's running mate has boosted her already high approval ratings in Alaska.

Pollster Ivan Moore said a poll conducted Aug. 30 - Sept. 2 reveal an 82 percent approval rating.

In a similar poll conducted Aug. 9-12, Palin was at 80 percent. Moore’s figures indicate a low of 76 percent in mid-July, based on polls conducted a few days after a story broke alleging that Palin, her family or staff had pressured the state Public Safety commissioner to fire an Alaska State Trooper involved in a bitter divorce with Palin’s sister.

Her numbers rebounded a few points within a week, reaching 80 percent in a poll conducted Aug. 9-12.

The Alaska governor has enjoyed tremendous popularity statewide following her election in 2006. A post-election honeymoon has really never faded. Ratings collected in May 2007 after five months in office revealed 89 percent popularity, which had fallen only a bit to 82 percent in January 2008.

Respondents were given the names of public figures and asked whether their feelings toward them are very positive, somewhat positive, somewhat negative or very negative. Moore's study polled a sample size of 500 and has a margin of error of 4.4 percent.

Democratic pollster Ivan Moore operates Ivan Moore Research, based in Anchorage, and contributes a column to the Anchorage Press newspaper.

hairbrain, the leak was mentioned on Page B3 of today's paper. Apparently, several valves on a railroad tank car stuck open as it was being unloaded.

Dermot - you should write about how her approval rating dipped in July. Please leave out the rest of the story. We want you to be our spokesman.

Mit - Parnell is busy running for Young's seat. Her staff is on leave with pay. Maybe Trooper Wooten is taking care of things?

Where have all the comments gone, long time pasting. Where have all the out of Staters gone, long time ago. Gone to media graveyards, finally leaving Alaskans alone.

SO the GOP is basically saying now that anyone can be vice president, what about "Obamas lack of experience". This is a joke

Apparently the McCain campaign is claiming today that Palin isn't going to do ANY media interviews between now and the election, just scripted speeches. They won't let her talk about policy without a script, because she'll show that she knows practically nothing about national policy issues. Compare that to Barack Obama who writes most of his own speeches, does hundreds of interviews, out-debated Hillary, and wrote a best-selling book about his policy ideas.

It's all well and good to LIKE Palin... for Alaska. But we've had enough years of a President who doesn't know anything about important national and international issues.

Why did'nt the Republicans mention middle class education, healthcare, declining economy or our unstable deficit at their convention? Currently I observed that "Little Big Man Bush" is also enfluencing the election with his please don't sent the boys home from Iraq yet which is a scheduled Iraqi government agreement. We need to take that saddle off and retire that old republican buzzard, he had his fun.

My opinion of Palin went down after her speech. She showed herself to be just another mean-spirited, condescending, fear-mongering Republican who uses half-truths, who continues to wage a cultural war within our country to keep it divided, and who has to resort to name-calling because she has no substantive arguments to counter Obama's detailed plan for how he will put our country back on track.

When's Sarah going to announce her running mate? I'm from Arizona. I'll vote for Sarah but I won't vote for McAmnesty.
