FAIRBANKS — The West Valley Wolfpack turned in an impressive performance in sweeping a high school cross country dual meet against the Lathrop Malemutes on Tuesday afternoon at the North Star Golf Club.

Wolfpack runners took the top six spots in the boys race and five of the top seven spots in the girls race to claim victories over their cross-town rivals. West Valley won the boys race, 15-40, and the girls race, 22-36.

Werner Hoefler left the Wolfpack onslaught in the boys race as he ran away from his teammates to post a winning time of 17 minutes, 20 seconds.

Jacob Remington took the runner-up spot in 17:57. He was followed by Taylor Bearden in 18:09, Sawyer Kisken in 18:14, Sean Solie in 18:37 and Ealum Howe in 18:46.

Two Malemutes cracked the top 10 — Pat Nugent, seventh in 18:48, and Zach Ginn, ninth in 18:52.

West Valley’s other top 10 finishers were Robert Stolzberg, eighth in 18:48, and Zack Keskinen in 19:00.

The two teams alternated position through the top five finishers in the girls race.

West Valley’s Kayla Teslow earned the top spot with a solid performance, finishing in 20:30. Lathrop’s Heather Edic captured the runner-up spot in 20:47. Rounding out the top five were West Valley’s Hannah Boyer in 21:14, Lathrop’s Sydney Stone in 22:00 and West Valley’s Wendy Boger in 22:11.

The second five included West Valley’s Eliza Rorabaugh in 22:16, West Valley’s Elizabeth Whisenhant in 22:25, Lathrop’s Kim Fitzgerald in 22:32, West Valley’s Molly Callahan in 22:40 and Lathrop’s Megan Edic in 22:56.

Both teams are scheduled to run at the Palmer Invitational on Saturday.
