The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.
Multiple charges
Jeffrey Adam Oliver, 38, of North Pole was charged with felony assault and drunken driving following an accident at the intersection of College Road and the Steese Expressway on Wednesday.
According to a criminal complaint filed in court, interviews with witnesses and evidence at the scene indicated Oliver ran a red light while going south on the Steese Expressway in a 1991 Toyota sedan and struck the driver’s side of a 2007 Chevrolet pickup.
While interviewing Oliver in the ambulance, a Fairbanks police officer detected a faint smell of alcohol on his breath and noted that Oliver seemed confused about where he was coming from and what had happened.
Oliver told the officer he was on his way to work in North Pole and he had a couple of beers at the Oasis bar just prior to the accident. A portable breath test indicated he was intoxicated.
Four hours after the accident, Oliver’s breath-alcohol content was measured at 0.325, more than four times the legal limit of 0.08.
Oliver was charged with third-degree assault for recklessly causing physical injury to another person by means of a dangerous instrument, i.e. a motor vehicle, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
DUI
Harold William Pierce, 46, of Fairbanks was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop on Cushman Street Thursday night. Alaska State Troopers pulled Pierce over at 10:37 p.m. for failing to signal a turn.
The trooper noticed a strong odor of alcohol on Pierce and observed that he had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech. Pierce also failed field sobriety tests. His breath-alcohol content registered 0.183 percent on a chemical test.
