Prevention of wildland fires focus of open house this week in Fairbanks
Published Tuesday, May 13, 2008
The state Division of Forestry is holding an open house on Friday in Fairbanks to help promote Wildland Fire Prevention and Preparedness Week.
The event is scheduled from noon-2 p.m. at the state forestry office on the corner of Airport Way and University Avenue.
The public is invited to get an up-close look at fire engines and local firefighting operations. There will also be personnel on hand to talk about ways to protect our home and property in the event of a wild fire.
Gov. Sarah Palin proclaimed this week (May 12-18) as Wildland Fire Prevention and Preparedness Week. The governor encourages all citizens to participate in individual efforts and community programs that reduce the risk and threat of wildland fire to their homes, property and communities.
