JUNEAU -- A judge has refused to release Vonnie Williams.

He's the 44-year-old man accused of running a high-volume drug ring in Juneau. Now, the district attorney says Williams is running the drug ring from prison.

Superior Court Judge Patricia Collins on Monday denied Williams' request to lower his $75,000 bail and release him to a third-party custodian.

Collins suggested that the woman selected to be his third-party custodian was on drugs in the courtroom.

Prosecutors say the 44-year-old Williams and co-defendant Aaron Washington led an organized crime gang that burgled and cheated money from dozens of people and businesses.

Prosecutors contend that the drug enterprise smuggled pounds of cocaine, and other drugs, into the city during a five-year period.
