JUNEAU -- Repair work on the Juneau transmission lines wiped out in an avalanche could be ahead of schedule.

That's because the contractor doing the work says two of the Snettisham towers can be reused.

AEL&P's Scott Willis reported to the Assembly on Monday night that the contractor has uncovered the foundations of two of the damaged transmission towers, and found that they are still intact and are reusable.

He says that will save the time it would have taken to dig new foundations and pour concrete.

Willis says instead of a mid-July completion date, the repair project could be finished by late June.

But he says there is still a lot of work that needs to be done, and parts that need to be delivered, so things could change.
