Anchorage firefighters battle an early morning two-alarm apartment fire at 41st Court and Baxter Road in Anchorage on Tuesday, May 13, 2008.

ANCHORAGE -- Firefighters in Anchorage battled an early morning blaze at an apartment complex.

The blaze was complicated by leaking natural gas from the apartment complex. Workers with the Enstar energy company shut off natural gas to the building shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday.

However, fire officials held off from entering the building for fear the structure had been weakened.

The fire went to two alarms. Responders reported the roof was aflame and part of the center portion had caved in when they arrived on scene.

The apartment complex looks to be a total loss.
