Public Safety Report — May 10

The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.
Burglary
• About $6,000 worth of property was reported stolen from Shimek’s Audio on Sunday morning.
Another $20,000 in damage was done to the business. Alaska State Troopers are investigating the break-in, and anyone with information on the case is asked to call 451-5100.
• Troopers are searching for whoever took hundreds of dollars worth of power tools from a home in the Birch Hill area. The theft is believed to have occurred sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The house was unoccupied and under renovation at the time.
Assault
Thomas Bowman, 38, of Fairbanks, was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault after his girlfriend told Fairbanks police he slapped and choked her. The incident occurred March 15.
DUI
• Tina J. Coffman, 23, of Fort Wainwright, was charged with driving under the influence after Fort Wainwright police became suspicious that she was intoxicated while trying to gain entry to the base Thursday.
A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.111.
She was also charged with driving with a suspended license.
• Brogan Douglas Phillips, 21, of Ham Lake, Minn., was charged with driving under the influence after University of Alaska Fairbanks police spotted him speeding Thursday on Geist Road near Thompson Drive.
A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.102.
Multiple charges
Jeffrey Oliver, 38, of North Pole, was charged with third-degree assault and driving under the influence following a vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of the Steese Expressway and College Road. Witnesses told Fairbanks police that Oliver ran a red light and struck a truck driven by another man.
Oliver was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital following the crash, and other man was treated at the scene by medics.
A chemical test found Oliver’s breath-alcohol content to be 0.325, more than four times the legal limit of 0.08 to operate a motor vehicle.
