Market policy

To the editor:
The Tanana Valley Farmers Market is getting ready for the start of another season this Saturday, and we need to inform the community of a change in policy this year. In past years, we have tried to accommodate people who walk their pets through the market.
In recent years, we have noticed a rise in unsanitary and aggressive incidents with the potential for injury, particularly with dogs. This has clearly become an issue of both sanitation and safety concerns. Therefore, we must now prohibit pets from the Farmers Market vendor areas, with the exception of service dogs.
We encourage people to consider the welfare of their animals first as we ask you to please leave pets at home for their own safety, comfort and well-being when coming to shop at the Farmers Market. We look forward to seeing you at the market for another great season, and thank you for your continued support.

Not everyone likes dogs. I would also like to request folks to leave their dogs at home when they go to any place of business. I've seen dogs "do their business" on the floor in our store. The owners cleaned it up, but dog crap and carpet are a poor mix.
Dogs and outdoor dining areas are a poor mix too. How many people have had their food eaten by another persons dog?
I've been nipped twice by dogs while assisting customers in their vehicles. Both times the owners indicated that "little Fluffy NEVER does that".
Unless you are taking them to the vet, LEAVE THEM AT HOME!
With the warmer weather it's not good to leave them in your car. Even with a window partially opened. Think of your pet.
you know, dogs dont wear fart filters.. what is a little spray in the vegetable section anyway?
There new policy only makes sense.
I went today & enjoyed the market immensely. Thanks!
I'm glad to hear this!
I own a dog, but he doesn't go into stores with me. I used to work at one and see people bring them in all the time, ignoring the fact that the 'NO DOGS ALLOWED' sign was clearly posted! And then get mad when you tell them to take them out. You should leave them at home.
Only dogs allowed in stores are 'working' dogs.
