What: Pets and People Day

When: Noon-4 p.m., Saturday

Where: Tanana Valley Fairgrounds

Cost: $1.50 per person, $5 per family

Need something new to do for or with your pet? Interested in learning about a certain breed of dog, cat, alpaca or goat? Companions, Inc. has your answer: The 22nd annual Pets and People Day.

“We want to inform the public of things to do with and for their pets,” said event organizer Diana Lecorchick.

Offering “lots of fun for everyone,” the event brings a variety of fun animals to see — miniature horses, alpacas, rabbits, goats, llamas, pigeons, reptiles and more — and attractions like a petting zoo and hand-crafted items for sale. Lecorchick said visitors can view demonstrations on pet-related topics such as herding, agility and grooming, view canine CPR demonstrated by the American Red Cross, and learn more about potential pet adoptions.

“We’ll have rescued animals out there, which provides a different environment for people to interact with potential pets for adoption,” she said.

There may also be a pet massage demonstration. Part of the idea, Lecorchick said, is to educate on many pet-related topics.

“Maybe someone is interested in sheep herding but they don’t know anything about herding dogs or how to care for them. This is a place to learn more,” she said.

Door prizes, raffles and food are also included, and cost of the event is $1.50 per person and $5 per family.

Something called "People and Pets Day" sure sounds like people and pets go together, doesn't it? Sounds like people and pets should attend, right?

    NOT.

It would have been best if the article had mentioned whether pets were welcome at this event. They most emphatically were NOT welcome. I was turned away from the door by an extremely grouchy man who told me to go away! My dog is well-behaved and quiet.

I just wasted 20 miles of driving--that's a lot of gasoline, even in an import truck!

I don't get it... it said : "Need something new to do for or with your pet?" To me that says dogs welcome! I'm sorry that you wasted your time and gas! That just stinks to high heaven!
