Public Safety Report — June 28

The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.
Assault
• Jesse Warren Charlie, 25, of Fairbanks, was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly struck his girlfriend and her father with a squeegee Wednesday morning. The pair was attempting to stop Charlie from driving because he was intoxicated, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
Charlie was also taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for treatment of a cut lip he suffered during the altercation, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
• Brandon Jacob Dewey, 25, of Fairbanks, was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault after a witness said he beat up a man Thursday at a Fairbanks home.
• A janitor at North Pole Elementary School is accused of pushing a 14-year-old student.
Scott David Johnson, 33, of Fairbanks, has been charged with fourth-degree assault.
Two witnesses said Johnson pushed the boy off a lunch table on March 18 at the school. Johnson told North Pole police that the boy would not get off the table, and he moved him slightly so he could continue with his work, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
The teen claimed he fell to the ground during the incident and aggravated an injury he suffered in wrestling.
DUI
• Michael Dwayne Fifer, 41, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after University of Alaska Fairbanks police spotted him driving with a headlight out early Wednesday morning on College Road near Westwood Way.
A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.099, over the legal limit of 0.08 to operate a motor vehicle.
Three children, ages 4, 7 and 9, were in the vehicle at the time he was pulled over.
Fifer was also charged with three counts of child endangerment, one count of failure to maintain vehicle insurance and a single count of driving with a revoked license, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
• Anthony W. Jones, 44, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Alaska State Troopers pulled him over for making an improper lane change early Thursday morning on the Old Steese Highway near College Road.
Jones smelled of alcohol, and had slurred speech and bloodshot, watery eyes, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
Jones allegedly burped several times to avoid taking part in a breath test.
He was also charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test, driving with a revoked license and violating conditions of release.
• Robert L. Roman, 56, of North Pole, was charged with driving under the influence after troopers received a report Wednesday of a man passed out in a vehicle at the intersection of Marigold and Wolf roads in North Pole.
The trooper had to yell several times at Roman, who had a can of beer between his legs, to get him to wake up, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.083.
Furnishing alcohol
Landon Jonn Godwin, 21, of Fairbanks, was charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor after an 18-year-old told UAF police that Godwin bought him whiskey in early April.
Minor operating
Dallin Paul Jensen, 17, of Fairbanks, was charged with being a minor operating a vehicle after consuming alcohol after troopers spotted him leaving the scene of an underage drinking party on Henderson Road.
A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.017.
Multiple charges
A Fairbanks man is accused of slapping his girlfriend and not letting her leave a bathroom.
Matthew Torrenti, 21, has been charged with kidnapping, fourth-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
The incident occurred when he became upset at his girlfriend when she received a text message from her estranged husband on Wednesday at the Steese Medical Center.
He then allegedly broke her phone and took her into a bathroom where he grabbed her by the neck, slapped her and refused to let her leave, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
Theft
A Fairbanks woman is accused of stealing a debit gift card from a co-worker at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
Tracy L. Gonzalez, 24, has been charged with second-degree theft and second-degree forgery, both felonies.
The co-worker reported the $400 gift card stolen in late March from a secure area at the hospital.
Investigators discovered the gift card was cashed in at Wal-Mart, and Gonzalez and her husband were seen using that gift card several times on a security tape, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
The co-worker’s name was signed on the receipts in every case.
Gonzalez, who was pregnant at the time, said she received the Wal-Mart gift card at a baby shower, but after Fairbanks police obtained a guest list, none of them said they gave her such a gift.
