Published Friday, June 27, 2008

The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.

Search and rescue

The Fort Yukon police department, with assistance from the Bureau of Land Management, rescued a stranded boater Wednesday.

A man notified the police Wednesday morning that he left his friend behind on the Yukon River after running out of fuel and went to the village to get more. When he went back to the site of the boat, he was unable to find his friend, Markie Frank.

After searching the river for two hours, Fort Yukon police Lt. Jeremy Fernandes contacted the BLM for a helicopter, which was used to locate Frank about six miles west of Fort Yukon.

Frank was in good condition, aside from being hungry and having a few bug bites, Fernandes said.

Vehicle theft

A red and black Honda TRX450R four-wheeler was reported stolen Wednesday from a Bainbridge Boulevard home. The vehicle was taken between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 5 p.m. Wednesday. Fairbanks police are investigating.
