Published Saturday, July 5, 2008
KETCHIKAN -- Alaska lawmakers are gearing up to head to Ketchikan for the final leg of their monthlong trek around the state for hearings on Gov. Sarah Palin's gas pipeline proposal.
Since beginning their special session on June 3, lawmakers have traveled to Fairbanks, Anchorage, Palmer, Kenai and Barrow. They'll be in Ketchikan on Tuesday.
Lawmakers have until Aug. 2 to either support or reject TransCanada Corp.'s bid for a state license.
In Ketchikan, TransCanada vice president Tony Palmer will discuss the company's proposal starting at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Ted Ferry Civic Center.
The public can weigh in on the issue from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. the same day at the civic center.
Legislators will return to Juneau on Wednesday for a second special session and are expected to take a vote on Palin's recommendation to award TransCanada a license to proceed with a gas line project.

IS THE GAS FLOWING DOWN THE PIPE LINE, YET?
Somebody better start doing something, besides talking.
I heard Denali's commercial three times today on my way from Fairbanks to North Pole. It said nothing about doing any actual building, and touted their environmental studies, but they are employing people in Anchorage where their PR department is not mentioning BP or Conoco. I wonder why no one told Denali that there isn't a plan to build a pipeline to Anchorage?
out in the cold: seriously, is there a "plan" that would have gas flowing already? if you're paying attention you know that a lot of people are doing something besides talking. are you one of them?
