Assault
• A musician in a band that motivates rural Alaska youth is accused of assaulting a Galena man.
Clayton James Edwin, 24, of Tanana, has been charged with fourth-degree assault.
Edwin and other members of a rap group performed at an alcohol-free event Friday in the western village with the intention of promoting how to have a good time without drinking.
The next day, an 18-year-old Galena man saw members of the band apparently engaged in a fight outside of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church.
When the man tried to break up the fight, Edwin allegedly punched and kicked him in the head. The man said he was also struck with a rock.
Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the assault.
The 18-year-old was treated for several injuries, including a possible broken nose, at the clinic emergency room.
• Paul Peters, 32, of Kaltag, was charged with fourth-degree assault after his girlfriend said he punched her in the back Sunday afternoon in Kaltag.
Theft
• Construction materials and tools were reported stolen Tuesday afternoon from a home near Chena Ridge Road.
Alaska State Troopers are investigating.
• Fairbanks police received a report Monday of a camera stolen from a vehicle parked at Pioneer Park on June 1.
The vehicle was locked at the time, but when the owner returned to the vehicle, it was found unlocked.
Vehicle theft
A dark green Polaris six-wheeler was reported stolen Tuesday morning from a Deere Street business.
Troopers believe the vehicle, which also has Rhino lining in the bed and a gun rack in the front, was driven toward the intersection of the Johansen Expressway and University Avenue sometime overnight.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call troopers at 451-5100.
Vehicle vs. wildlife
A Fort Greely man struck a moose Sunday morning while traveling northbound near Mile 263.5 Richardson Highway.
The man and his passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $4,000.
The moose ran off the road and was not located.
