Cause of warehouse fire still under investigation

Published Thursday, December 4, 2008

FAIRBANKS — The state fire marshal still is investigating the cause of a warehouse fire that caused more than $1 million worth of damage.

Local firefighters spent more than seven hours fighting the Oct. 31 blaze at H&H Contracting off Phillips Field Road and several days sorting through the rubble.

Sub-zero temperatures complicated efforts to fight the fire and search the building, which was insured.

The investigation was turned over to the fire marshal’s office several days later, but spokeswoman Megan Peters said they are awaiting lab results before announcing the suspected cause of the fire.

She would not speculate if investigators believe the fire is suspicious or offer a time frame for when more information might be released.

If I am not mistaken, H & H did a drug test on its employees that day or the day before the fire broke out and there were a handful of employees that were "let go" for failing their urine test.

Sounds like they didn't want to have to pay unemployment for their seasonal workers. If they fire them for just cause they get out of this obligation. It they haven't figured out who did it by now then they aren't going to unless someone confesses.

The nerve of that company to drug test equipment operators!
