Sarah Palin
Presidential nominee Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., announced that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was his choice as vice presidential running mate on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008.
WASHINGTON -- Republican presidential candidate John McCain tapped Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate today at a rally in swing-state Ohio.
Palin, 44, is a social and fiscal conservative who is widely popular with Alaskans, though she is largely unknown outside of the state. But like McCain, the first-time governor is a maverick who is not afraid to challenge her fellow Republicans or take on special interests.
The choice of the populist Republican governor signals a return for McCain to his long-held image as a political reformer.
In announcing his pick, McCain said he was looking for "a running mate who can best help me shake up Washington and make it start working again for the people that are counting on us."
"I found someone with an outstanding reputation for standing up to special interests and entrenched bureaucracies; someone who has fought against corruption and the failed policies of the past," McCain told supporters in Ohio.
Palin, who described herself as an "average hockey mom" is only the second woman ever tapped to be a vice presidential running mate and the first Republican. She told those attending the rally that it was an honor to be a part of the McCain campaign.
"To serve as vice president beside such a man would be the privilege of a lifetime, and it's fitting that this trust has been given to me 88 years almost to the day after the women of America first gained the right to vote," she said.
Palin was elected as the state's first woman governor in 2006, having previously served six years as the mayor of Wasilla. She was also the youngest governor ever elected at the age of 42.
As governor, Palin has had a rocky relationship with the state's biggest industry and entrenched interests within her own party. She raised taxes on the oil industry and pushed ethics reform through the Legislature following a corruption scandal involving an oil-field service company and state lawmakers.
Palin sought the ouster, unsuccessfully, of state Republican Party boss Randy Ruedrich -- who she clashed with early in her political career over ethical issues -- and began eviction proceedings against Exxon Mobil and its partners at the Point Thomson oil and gas field.
But she also challenged the federal government's listing of the polar bear as a threatened species and has gone out of her way to help Shell with its offshore exploration program in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas. And she's been an outspoken advocate for developing Alaska's energy resources.
McCain praised Palin as "someone with strong principles, a fighting spirit and deep compassion."
He also spoke about her willingness to reach out to Democrats and Republicans alike, and said she's shown "great tenacity and skill in tackling tough problems, especially our dangerous dependence on foreign oil."
Palin supports opening the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, something McCain opposes, though he has said he might reconsider his position on the issue.
Palin, a hunting and fishing enthusiast and a pro-life mother of five, could bolster support for McCain among both women and the far right conservative wing of the Republican party.
Palin specifically courted women voters in her speech, saying she was following in the footsteps of Democrats Sen. Hillary Clinton and former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro.
"The women of America aren't finished yet and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all," she said.
Palin also supports McCain's efforts to curb government spending and do away with the practice of congressional earmarks.
Still, Palin, who secretly flew to Ohio by private jet late Thursday night to join McCain at the rally, was an unconventional choice for vice president.
Her relative lack of executive experience and depth of knowledge on foreign policy and national security issues drew immediate fire from Democrats. The state Legislature is also investigating whether she abused her power in dismissing former Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan allegedly because he wouldn't fire her former brother-in-law.
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Sen. Charles Schumer of New York called McCain's pick a "Hail Mary pass."
"Certainly the choice of Palin puts to rest any argument about inexperience on the Democratic team and while Palin is a fine person, her lack of experience makes the thought of her assuming the presidency troubling," Schumer told the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call.
Bill Burton, Sen. Barack Obama's spokesman, wasted little time in blasting Palin.
"Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency," Burton said. "Gov. Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies -- that's not the change we need, it's just more of the same."
But Palin received strong support from the state's congressional delegation, with whom she's not always had the best relations.
"It's a great day for the nation and Alaskans," said Sen. Ted Stevens in a prepared statement. "Gov. Palin has proven herself as a bright, energetic leader for our state and will bring the same energy to the vice presidency."
Stevens, who goes on trial next month in Washington for allegedly failing to disclose $250,000 in gifts from VECO chief executive Bill Allen, said Palin's knowledge of energy issues will be beneficial both to the state and the nation.
"It is now clear, there is only one presidential ticket, McCain-Palin, that can and will deliver a comprehensive energy plan -- one that will include development of Alaska's resources and reducing our dependence on foreign oil," Stevens said.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who's father Palin defeated in the 2006 governor's race, called McCain's choice a "bold step."
"Sarah brings a great deal of excitement to the campaign and she makes Alaskans proud," Murkowski said in a prepared statement. "Her candidacy will highlight Alaska's critical role as a state that can help meet our nation's energy needs through domestic oil and gas exploration and development."
Michael Anderson, a spokesman for the re-election campaign of Rep. Don Young, said Palin's placement on the national ticket gives Republicans in the state a reason to get out and vote on Nov. 4, which should provide a boost to other GOP candidates.
Drue Pearce, federal coordinator for the Alaska natural gas pipeline and former state Senate president, said Palin was a smart pick for McCain.
"She's very bright, she's fair, she's tough and she's a good choice for John McCain. She balances the ticket," Pearce said. "She complements his maverick style and she brings a human face to the ticket that I don't think we've seen before."
The fact that Palin is a young mother with a blue-collar background and a husband who works on the North Slope and has a son in the military makes her a unique choice as well, Pearce said.
"There's never been a ticket that had a candidate like Sarah Palin, where the candidate herself provides that full package," she said.
Palin's age provides McCain a response to his critics who say he's too old. McCain turns 72 today and would be the oldest person to assume the presidency if elected in November.
Palin was joined at the rally by her husband and four of her five children -- Bristol, 17, Willow, 14, Piper, 7, and Trig, 3 months. Palin's oldest, Track, 19, was preparing to deploy to Iraq in September with the U.S. Army.
"Todd and I are actually celebrating our 20th anniversary today, and I promised him a little surprise for the anniversary present, and hopefully he knows that I did deliver," she told the crowd.
Todd Palin works as a production operator on the North Slope for oil major BP and is a member of the United Works Union, but that has not stopped Palin from being an outspoken critic of the oil industry.
The North Slope's three biggest oil producers -- Exxon, BP and ConocoPhillips -- declined to comment on McCain's choice of Palin.
News that Palin had been tapped to be McCain's running mate came as a surprise to many of her staff in Anchorage and Washington. According to a press release put out by the governor's office late Thursday, she was scheduled to be at the state fair in Palmer on Friday for the unveiling of the new state quarter.
McAllister, Palin's spokesman, said he learned that Palin was in Ohio only after seeing it on the major television networks.
"I didn't expect this and I don't think the governor did either," said John Katz, Palin's representative in Washington. "Either that or she's the best poker player in the world."
Palin said she planned to spend the two months remaining before the election campaigning across the country in support of McCain
"The next 67 days I'm going to take our campaign to every part of our country and our message of reform to every voter of every background, in every political party, or no party at all," she said.
McAllister said Palin's campaign schedule would not conflict with her duties as governor.
"There's no legislative session scheduled this fall, the governor has commissioners to run departments, and she is in constant contact with key aides by phone and e-mail," he said.
Palin in the past had continually said she was happy being governor and had no intention of seeking higher office before their end of her term in 2010, but the chance to fill the second-highest position in the country proved irresistible.
"Some of life's greatest opportunities come unexpectedly, and that's certainly the case today," she said.

NOOOOO!!!!!!
Oh the anticipation waiting for the announcement.
Will it be McCain - Palin afterall?
Did she fly off to Ohio last night?
She could still fly back to attend the Palmer State Fair this evening.
OH NO, we can't use the best Gov. we've had in years...
Fox News is really hyping it.
The pace it picking up!
Who has Parnell lined up for Lt Governor?
If she goes and Parnel wins who is next in line for the gov..
This is making the national news. Maybe there is hope for the Republican party after all. How many of people who wanted to see a woman finally in a top position will turn to McCain. Hopefully this will will be the choice.
McCain - Palin 2008
Palin - ? 2012
I saw this on Yahoo news before it was even on here..Wild!
McCain just chose a criminal for his VP.......
And CNBC is now reporting about her firing of Monegan for refusing to fire Trooper Wooten.
SO MUCH FOR HER COMMITMENT TO ALASKA
Just on news, confirms that Sarah Palin is the VP pick...waiting now for McCain to announce.
Well, it's her. She's the VP nominee.
LOL @ you foolish democrats...
On a recent interview on the VP selection process, Gov Sarah Palin downplayed and stated:
"How can Alaska contribute more to the United States?"
Vice President Sarah Palin!, that would do it.
Maybe President Palin 2012.
Well, well, well......makes the whole thing a little easier to think about now. If it is McCain/Palin at least I'll know there will be some good sense in the Whitehouse! It would be a shame to see her go because she has been a breath of fresh air for Alaska, but I guess she'd be able to carry on in a much larger scheme now. She is a good person, a great leader and a fair person. The whole state trooper situation is just another proof that she wasn't content to carry on with the status quo - I have no problem with her actions there. Don't get so set in your job that you think you are indispensable. Work it like you need to keep it.....
Way to go Gov Palin.
The national news is already hyping the trooper Wooten allegations and will do their best to undermine the Republican ticket. Such a shame but if she wants to be VP all skeletons will be revealed. She has my support 110%.
Great news for Alaska, I am from Tennessee and all the Republicans say HooRay for Palin.
Sara Palin has been a great Govenor for our state. She will do the same for the all the states. We should all be excited, Govenor Palin will be the first elected VP of the United States. This is history in the making.
One of my very liberal freinds has said he will be voting for Mr. McCain.
I am very honored indeed, Thanks John McCain.
And I thought she was doing so well. What a waste.
Damn, I burnt myself on my coffee when I read this... What ELSE can make this political year any more interesting?? With the way this country picks leaders based so much on appearance over qualifications, America will fall all over her dazzling good looks.. Never mind her main qualification before the governorship was the mayor of a small town in the sticks of AK.. This woman's political career has rocket boosters strapped to it!
After Mayor Whitaker-R support for Obama in Denver, McCain needed to act to ensure winning Alaska's three electorial votes. LOL
If the GOP loses, would Palin remain as governor?
Maybe if McCain wins, the President will actuactly come and visit Alaska?
And I can see her standing nose to nose with Putin after McCain has a heart attack a month after inauguration...with her great range of experience playing basketball and cheering soccer games.
Go Sarah!!!!!!!
akbearable - Those are rocket boosters or a pretty face that did it - it is proven ability to step up to the plate - and she has and will continue to. It is only a further blessing that her beauty shines from the inside out.
A stuffed shirt and a vacuous skirt. They are both idiots and she more so then he.
No offense to Sarah... but if she does accept the offer she has made a poor decision! Number one this is one of the most exciting times in Alaska's economic history. We need her here to bring home the energy changes we have needed for decades and get us through this energy crisis! Number two she just gave birth to a child and I think nationally people will question her 'motherly' nature and why she is putting career advancement over the first years of this child, especially one with special needs. Three... from Wasilla mayor to Alaska governor to United States Vice... home girl needs more time in office... even though she is doing a bang up job! Finally, she is not Hillary! It took years for Hillary to develop a relationship and trust with this nationâĤ and she was and is loved. But, Sarah is not Hillary, not to say she does not have the potential to become one of our future presidents. But, if the Republicans think that we just wanted to see a woman in power they certainly donât understand the psyche behind the vote of a woman! Sarah would have much more success staying put for the next 8 years letting the Democrats clean up Bush's mess and then run for president of the United States after she has built a solid reputation of reform and energy rehabilitation for the great state of Alaska. So if the Republican party is just trying to carry on the Hillary momentum to bust through the glass ceiling they are going to be fiercely defeated in November.
On a second note... this experience could give Sarah alot of public exposure... that could lead to her Presidental election in 2016!
However it works out this election has been as is going to be monumental!
JoBama 2008!
I don't call what Bush did visiting the state. Yea, he landed and visited with the troops, which I totally support. My point is that he should come and visit the cities and people of the state.
As the saying goes, there is always a strong woman beside any successful man....
Tempus_Fugit, look in a mirror and then get the *@%? out of our state!
Sarah and the First Dude are on their way!!
Great news. One of the unintended consequences is no more Obama ads!!!!
Lame. OBAMA/BIDEN '08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG that's tooootally kool!!! GO SARAH!!!
McCain really had no choice. Choose the usual"stuffy" (and very rich, like him) politicians as his running mate, or go with someone that hasn't been jaded by "the establishment."
Last night, Barack Obama talked about life growing up on Welfare....the product of a single-parent upbringing.
A child of bi-racial decent, a Black child being raised by a White mother during the back end of the Civil Rights Movement.
He talked of the word "struggle" and his familiarity with it.
He didn't come from big money.
His father wasn't an oil man...in fact, this father wasn't even around.
He's not a "trust fund" baby.
He has a enormous following because people RELATE with him on a certain level.
John McCain had no choice....."I need to find somebody AT LEAST somewhat on that level.
The "fat cat" ultra-rich Mitt Romney's of the world just wouldn't do.
Not against Obama.
And not during these trying times in our nation.
Smart move Senator McCain.
You saw last night as this man, Barack Obama, sold out an entire football stadium accepting the Democratic nomination for President.
Sarah Palin HAD to be McCain's choice.
Her past is well-documented.
She doesn't come from "big money" either.
Shortly after her being elected as Governor, I ran into her at Fred Meyer.
She was doing some grocery/clothes shopping.
No security detail.....no plain clothes troopers....nothing.
Just a mother doing some routine shopping for her family.
Through my line of work, I ran into her on the banks of the frozen Chena River as she awaited the arrival of her husband during the Tesoro Iron Dog.
We talked as friends.....
I then told her how my daughter was going to kick herself for not coming with me (she was at home doing homework).
Governor Palin asked for my cell phone, I gave her my phone number...and she called my house....talked to my daughter ("girl talk" wow) for about 10-15 minutes.
I tell my family and friends in Ohio about those two instances, when they ask "who is this Sarah Palin?"
They express shock that she continues to consider herself "a citizen...one of us," despite also being the State's Chief Executive Officer.
I don't put my undying devotion into politicians and government figures.
As recent history has shown, they are prone to the same ills and screw-ups that affect us all.
And I smell "fake" 50 miles away.
This woman was genuine....and I appreciated her for that, AND the way she goes head to head with "the establishment."
They don't like her, and she gives a damn.
I'm not a Republican.....but I like Sarah Palin.
After all the corruption and scandal that's dogged this state lately, some positive news.
Alaska should be proud!
Just imagine what the elections would have been like had Obama chosen Hillary as his running mate. Obama/Clinton vs McCain/Palin now that would have made a very interesting election. Yup, the voters would have been voting Clinton vs Palin.....oh well....Obama has his work cut out for him.....especially with this being the 88th year of women's right to vote.

Awesome! There goes McCain's argument of lack of experience.
Flint Hills is gouging us on gas prices so much that even the Governor may have to move out of state.
I am very happy for Palin and supportive of the McCain/Palin ticket. I wanted to cry though when I read the CNN headlines. Alaska is better because of her and I hate that we might have to give her up. My hope is that she thrives on the national level as she has on the state level. What she lacks in experience she makes up for in dedication, motivation, and integrity.
aksunshine - thats for sure..........GO SARAH !!!!!
Jim who?
My head is spinning.
When Hillary Clinton gave a shout out to my hometown, Seneca Falls, NY - the birthplace of women's rights in America - I almost passed out.
When my new hometown - Fairbanks - mayor spoke at the DNC Convention in support of Senator Obama, I almost passed out.
Now the governor of my home state - someone I was discussing as a great (but unlikely) choice for Senator McCain with my friends from NY - is Senator McCain's running mate.
A historic election all around now. It's going to be an exciting 2 months.
WAY TO GO SARAH!!!! She has the record of fiscal conservatism and an ability to step up and get the job done! She is the best choice for VP!! As Alaskaâs Gov. she has worked with the military, and worked hard to change the Big oil mess. She is very qualified, far more qualified than Obama.
Tim Pawlenty's father was a truck driver, his mom died of cancer at 16... he supports importing safe drugs from foreign countries, his wife was a judge, he has been practicing law since 86 and has served two terms as govenor of Minnesota...he was the wiser choice! Forget the Hillary parallels... he is running agains Obama... not Hillary!!
It just aggravates me that he is attempting to take Palin away from a state that is going to lead the nation in this energy reform! We need a strong leader in power here.. and she is the one for Alaska not he vice presidency for the Republican party!
Say good bye to the presidency McCain... You can't use our hottie to get yourself elected!!
I'm amazed. Sarah Palin is really great, but VP? Unfortunately I can't stand McCain. I will still be writing in Ron Paul.
Wow, that's it..just Wow... Go Sarah!
This will probably be the best thing that has happened to Alaska in a long time. Somebody who really has a home in Alaska as opposed to an Atco trailer in Fort Yukon or a lodge in Girdwood and a lot of real estate investments in Arizona, Florida and Southern California. Who knows maybe people will start to think of Alaska as a state and not another national park. Maybe we really will see some major moves in the natural gas projects. She got the ball rolling and maybe she will be able to keep it rolling.
....whoa. So we have one of the best gov. we had in awhile, whats going to happen now...to Alaska? who's going to step up in her position?
Congrats, Governor. I am almost tempted to vote for McCain now. Best of luck.
For a woman who feels that universal pre-kindergarten is not necessary in Alaska because young children should be home with their mothers, Palin is a prime example of "do as I say, not as I do."
Never liked her, never voted for her, don't plan on changing that now.
Congratulations Governor Sarah Palin !
And Happy Anniversary To Todd and Sarah Palin !
Watching Sarah Palin's speech in Dayton, I have never been more proud to be an Alaskan.
I am so excited that there is a presidential ticket that I want to vote for now! But I'm really, really bummed that we might lose her as Governor.
I for another, feel let down.
There's still way too much work to do here and we've only just begun.
She definitely doesn't get my vote on this one.
Mayor Whitaker should have watched the Dems convention on tv. How will he be able to support the ALASKAN candidate now?? Let the flip-flop begin.
Now I can vote for McCain and be almost happy with the choice. I don't think he could have picked better.
Not to be the downer here, but something fishy is going on...
Well of course she has the support of Alaskans- didn't she push for the extra "rebate" attached to the pfd and get the money out earlier than normal... hmmm.... sounds fishy to me... and all along we thought she had our best interest at heart... now she can look like the angel that saved Alaska during the midst of hard times to everyone in Washington... nice move during an election year.. can't tell me that they just started talking about this last night(talking with McCain about being his VP). I am sure it has been in the works for a while. All part of a plan.
Thought McCain said we were a "welfare state"... seems he forgot that when he picked Sarah... nice move.. now he can satisfy those that wanted a female in some type of office and he can also now try to redeem himself with the people of Alaska for those types of comments. He probably sees redemption with the people of Alaska a much easier thing to accomplish now that he has their favorite money giving govenor as his VP choice.
They are helping each other's political careers.. end of story.
Wow, the selfish people on here today. Yes, if and when McCain wins, Sarah is gone. This isnt a bad thing. Alaska loses her, but America will gain her. I couldnt imagine a better rep to the world for the US other than her. We will have Parnell, or a special election to find our new Gov. As a Gov she has shown us that politics as usual wont cut it anymore, our next batch of candidates better figure that out, or they wont be quitting their day jobs.
We need to look at this as not a loss for us, but a gain for our entire country. Go Sarah.
MAYOR JIM can return to be our #1 DOG CATCHER !!
Darn!
Having given the vp nod to Palin, the republican ticket, literally and figuratively, just got that much more attractive.
A brilliant move on McCain's part. Maybe.
ArcticStars, I can't help but think that you just might have a point there, about something being rather fishy about all this.
I was just reading the 'Obama Concerns' thread and was wondering if all the anti-Obama concern trolls who claim he doesn't have enough experience to be president are going to rush in here to point out that Palin doesn't have enough experience to be 'a heartbeat away from the presidency'.
I'm not going to hold my breath. I'm betting the new talking points will be that whereas Obama's lack of experience is a BAD thing, Palin's lack of experience will be 'just what Washington needs to shake things up.'
I think it will still be good for Alaska with Sarah as VP. Lot's of you rooted for Stevens and Young just because you wanted to keep a strong front in DC, now we have a better front.
Our whole country needs someone to shake the power brokers and Sarah will do that. I'm sure she's not going to be a meek VP like those in the past.
Way to go Sarah!
What a shameful publicity stunt!!!!!
McCain knew he could not win against a real candidate like Barack Obama who is the only presidential candidate since Bobby Kennedy to actually bring positive change and hope to this country we live in.
McCain was panicking, "Ohhh noo, my chance to keep the same old same old Bush politics alive is slipping!!! I need a plan that makes the people of the US think I'm going to help them by bringing change. Ohh, Ohh, I need a woman. Thatâs the ticket!â
I'm glad Sarah Palin is happy and excited to leave Alaskans behind when she has actually been doing a good job. She could have changed Alaska, but we are a special breed of people. If McCain died in office, could she really lead the Nation? 675,000 people are a lot less than 300,000,000. Could Palin really put Putin in his place? Iâve heard she cries when things donât go her way or people are being mean.
I really hope Americans open their eyes and take a good look at the facts. Obama is going to change this country for the better. He vows to help the Average Joe by lowering taxes for 95% of working families so we can survive in this struggling economy. McCain is still cool with helping the upper class folks out.
When everyone casts their vote in November, do not forget one major thing: The person making the decisions is McCain, not Palin.
Barack Obama 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, a family mother, Gov., And VP. Greatest choice ever made!
well I was thinking dang now who will I vote for...Obama the American traitor or McCain....I thought that maybe I would write someone in then it hit me if McCain wins Palin will be gone from Alaska!!!! Yeah McCain you swayed me I will vote for you for sure now!
"Wow, the selfish people on here today." Speak it hemingway! The majority of people commenting on here are usually VERY selfish and whiney.
I didn't want to follow the race too closely because I don't agree with Obama on many issues and I've basically made my choice. But now that McCain has picked Palin, this race will be very interesting... and historic to boot!
I was very upset yet elated to hear that our Governor was selected to run as the Republican nominee for Vice President. We are losing a great leader for the state, and I hope that the transition to our next Governor doesn't change our state's direction or focus. At the same time I am happy with the choice of Senator McCain. I don't know how much influence she will have as President of the Senate, but we need more people with her vision, values, and ideals to serve this nation. Yes, it was a major political decision and I believe it was a direct attempt to pick up more women and middle class votes for the McCain ticket.
By comparison, Senator Obama has not walked the walk of his talk for Change and still has not laid out how he will facilitate those changes he claims to support. Our Governor has made great strides in the changes she supports and has not backed down from the challenges of cutting through red tape and beauracracy. We have to move forward on the national level to make our state agenda a reallity. I have positive feelings that with the Governor as Vice President, AGIA will become reality through her work with Canada. Also, tapping our energy and reducing the national dependence on foreign energy will stay front and center in the political arena.
I'm with you, Oh_please. I am anxiously waiting!
Brightest and Brilliant!
With a flag of stars touches me to see one have to leave being the brightest and brilliant of all the stars in the sky. Out of touch and most beautiful among all of the others. Alone shines the most to be seen. Sure we'll lose a Gov. Sacrifice this one star. To finally be noticed......God Bless Alaska......
J. Sydney McCain has with this single choice showed that he is far more tactically capable than B. Hussein Obama ever can dream of being.
The choice of such an honest and hard working woman who has a spine and is ethically strong, very much unlike the folks that B. Hussein Obama has surrounded himself with during his career, J. Sydney McCain did a masterful selection. Sarah Palin will be missed in this her home State.
Now I can vote for McCain and not just against the guy who befriends terrorists, has had Reverend Wright as his Pastor for the past 20 years and has Mr Tony Rezco as one of his business associates as well. "By their fruits you shall know them." B. Hussein Obama... a sad excuse for a Presidential candidate.
Well history in the making for Alaska . now lets see what happens.
Will be interesting to hear what Stevens and Young will be saying..
For those of you that think this was a cheap shot for McCain--Maybe. This was probably the smartest choice he could have made. It cracks me up when they talk about her recently being the mayor of a population of 9,000. What about being the Gov? She has more expierence than Obama. He was a Senator. Oh and the dirt that they will dig up on her is this Trooper issue--no big deal. I can't believe that Alaskans would even comment on that when they are trying to put 2 crooks into office as we speak.
Well it looks like Obama just got trumped !.
Well, to say the least, this is going to make for an interesting election.
And, my own personal opinion, it is rather cool that OUR Governor was selected, even with it having been a calculated move on McCain's part. She is still one of us.
I believe this is a risky choice. Does she really have the experience to be Vice President? I dont think so. At least with Biden he's a bit more experienced. I didn't know being governor for what two years qualifies a promotion straight to VP. But since I actually want change for this country instead of the same old thing like McCain wants to do, I am going for Obama, he wants change so bad that his speech brought Oprah to tears(in a good way of course).
Oprah gets teared up by just about anything. It has just been a matter of time before the 'break through' of any person of minority status came into significant power - so will Oprah have tears for McCain's running mate - a powerful woman in her own right and a minority who indeed has already made many of the changes that Obama has only talked about? Oprah, being a powerful, successful woman herself- we know how she is already voting.
Sarah is smarter than obama, and just as good a speaker.
Her policies are more realistic,
and her work ethic is far more outstanding.
She represents people who work for what they have,
I can respect her and her entire career.
She kicked republican butt, and now she will kick democrat butt.
Instead of focusing on the national scale, which is admittedly important, we should be wondering what will happen in Alaska if McCain/Palin win the election in November. Assuming Parnell wins over Young for the House seat, the Attorney General, Talis Colberg, would become governor of Alaska. Can he fill Sarah's shoes and do what is best for Alaska?
Everyone is saying she doesn't have the experience, but look what the ones with experience got us. NOTHING! Only more corruption. Everyone has been asking for change and Sarah will bring that and more.
We want Sarah Palin as VP so that she can clean up America. She will stand for all Americans and not just the rich.
I thought it was pretty funny that Old Man McCain made the announcement on his 72nd birthday.
Those of you who have spent the last several months criticizing Obama for a lack of experience and then promptly jumped on the McCain/Palin bandwagon need to look up the phrase 'cognitive dissonance.'
/Absolutely hilarious.
Just think, in a couple of months we won't be able to say 'My Governor is hotter than your Governor!
I hate to see her leave Alaska but I wish her well. I am on vacation, in North Carolina, and the locals here are excited about Sarah. More than once today I have heard 'I never thought I would vote for a Republican but will this election'.
Poor First Dude, he will have to buy a suit and tie now, instead of Carharts.
It is true that the dems are crying for change and not the old party players, and Obama is their choice for change based on the fact that he is a newcomer with no executive experience.
Now they pass judgement on Palin for not being experienced enough even though her balls are bigger than his and she does have executive experience.
She has done more work for Alaska in 2 years than any other govener ever.
The Debate issue is not going to be a problem.....She's a mom of teenagers. Also she is the ONLY person in the race with Executive experience.
Gildy - Carhart will probably look into making a suit.
I think McCain would have lost Alaska in the main election to Obama.
Best thing that could have happened to the AK....Palin leaving
I was never a big fan of the "triller from Wasilla"
I feel sorry for her children.
Quick question,if her and McCain win and parnell wins will we have a speical election for govenor? or will we just do it Taxcowski style and let sarah pick the next governor.
pray for us america.
Now they pass judgement on Palin for not being experienced enough even though her balls are bigger than his and she does have executive experience.

Wrong again, 2cold4me. What we're doing is calling you guys on your spectacular hypocrisy.
I agree with you that she's been a great governor. However, when you use dumb talking points you need to be prepared to have the tables turned.
OMG!! It just occurred to me that Palin doesn't wear an American flag pin!!!!! See how that works, 2cold4me?
Honestly, most of you make me laugh so hard, it hurts. You are the same ones running around like chickens with their heads cut off screaming "Obama has no experience, he can't lead." And now, b/c it's your home town sweetie getting some national press, you've conveniently forgotten that and even now making the preposterous claims that Palin has more experience than Obama. Give me a break and why don't you try reading something more than the racist cry-baby "obama won't even salute the flag" rantings on this website before making such claims? You couldn't be further off-base and the thought of Palin leading this country into the next swing of the political pendulum, frankly scares me more than the current inept "my way or the highway" administration. News flash, this is my state too and I am equally entitled to my opinion so before you tell me to get "out of our state", why don't you practice some restraint and respect for those whose opinions differ. If you support Palin b/c she has shown "such promise", then the same credence should be given to Obama, who has demonstrably more experience than she.
Oh_Please, oh please maybe you should look up the word pertinent. While she could be called on to be the President, she is not the Presidential canidate. Apples and oranges. Other past Presidents have had Vice Presidents with less experience. Who was Bill Clinton before he became President, oh that's right he was a Govenor under controversy for extramarital affairs and fraud. If being a well spoken Govenor is the litmus test I guess she's a shoe in.
This is a brilliant, tactical move by McCain and the republicans. While it gives the presidential race another angle to consider, what is most important is if the McCain/Palin ticket wins the white house, it removes big oil's stumbling blocks in Alaska and moves our state backwards, reinforcing the status quo we have all spoken against for so long. Its a sad day for Alaska.
Something Ive never understood: Why is it that those who seek national office speak so eloquently about Alaska, when in fact they are doing their best to move as far away from here as possible???
Wow, you really missed the point, dude. I'm pretty sure you did it willingly to boot.
Old Man McCain IS 72 YEAR OLD! There's a good chance that he'll succumb to old age during his presidency. Not pertinent, my arse.
You really need to look up cognitive dissonance. Your post fit it to a 't'.
If you think Palin is well-spoken, then maybe you are listening to some type of lip-syncher. She's as well-spoken as George Bush.
You mean kind of like Chaney did. I did look it up, hence the comment I made to you. Obviously you suufer from some kind of cognitive disability otherwise you would have read and comprehendid my post. I am not a McCain Or Obama supporter so there is no controvery in my mind, nor have I changed my mind about either one of them, subsequently cognitive dissonance does not apply. I was commenting on the fact that you missused it. To bad, so sad to be you.
Way to go Sarah... and as for you talking about the debate between Biden and Palin, have you ever seen Palin debate? Do some research. Her degree is in journalism, the girl can talk just as well as she can run a country! Go Palin! I am one proud Alaskan!
Please excuse the transposition, it should have read suffer.
So, basically I'd like to see the headline tomorrow, "McCain taps Palin".
Yeeaaahhhh...
Make it happen!
oh-please - stevens is in his 80's, no reason the assume mccain will croak in the next 4 years. these guys have great health care you know.
Funny though - which is better, a presidential canidate with no foreign policy experience and no executive experience or a vp canidate with no foreign policy experience but with several years of executive experience.
Seems like obama is less qualified than both McCain and palin (or Biden) to be prez.
Oh yeah..oh yeah! Time to get off the porch and run with the big dogs Sarah! I can't wait for the debates! This is going to be so fun! And thanks for the early PFD!
Honestly, I was about fed up with Obama and McCain. Was the Palin pick a publicity stunt? Maybe, but she's about the only person that could have swayed me to vote for a mainstream candidate. Is she free of controversy? No, but she's real. She is still in touch with her constituents, works for Alaskans, and finally fits the conservative bill (few Republicans do any more). With VP under her belt, that should give her ample experience to take on the Presidency next.
Palin for VP means Palin for President, and that I could get used to.
wow.
fact is: Palin and McCain will win and that will be best for you libs because what would you do without someone to blame?
Look how much your Congress has got done! NOTHING!
You stand for things that are wrong and you will lose because of it.
Where can I get my McCain/Palin bumper stickers and yard signs????
It now looks as if the Republican ticket has a chance to win the White House! None better could have been chosen! The Dummycrats and their ilk, are going to have to resort to vicious personal attacks and not surprisingly, some attacks are already happening!
"In 2006, before Palin was governor, (Alaska State Trooper) Wooten was briefly suspended for ten days for threatening to kill McCann's (and Palin's) father, tasering his 11-year-old stepson (at the stepson's request), and violating game laws. After a union protest, the suspension was reduced to five days."
Sounds like a real good example of the good ol boy network being squashed by the governor....She has done good for Alaskans and should serve as an inspiration for the entire nation!
There's a big difference in being governor of Alaska and being second in command of the highest position in the land. How can John McCain claim to love this country and then cynically nominate a vice-presidential candidate who is so inexperienced? In addition to what this says about McCain's judgement, it says tons about Palin's judgement. You have to really have a poor understanding of government to think that two years as governor of Alaska equips you to be VP of the US in this day and age. No disrespect intended to Palin, but it is absolutely insulting for the McCain campaign to think they can win women's votes by merely putting a woman on the ticket. This VP choice is nothing more than a very negligent campaign ploy that will probably achieve little to promote McCainâs campaign efforts, while at the same time exposing this country to a very real risk of being governed by a very inexperienced president at a very critical time. If McCain believes, she has what it takes to be second in command he's an old fool. Speak about national security!
The first paragraph written was my first reaction after hearing that McCain choose Sarah as his running mate. But after thinking about it for a while, I thought why not Sarah. She would bring something to the white house that hasn't been there for a very long time "common sense" a connection to the real people who make up America. What she lacks in the way of college degrees, she makes up for in real life survival skills. Many early presidents weren't college grads either, perhaps this is an advantage to think outside of the box. Sarah understands what a hardship the cost of a gallon of gas puts on the average American family, she knows what a gallon of milk costs for those that live in a rural community. Hopefully her lack of political brainwashing will be an asset for every American and not just for those that live here in Alaska.
All the kool-aid drinkers are saying no experience, hell none of them could handle half a winter in Alaska. They say McCain is using Gov. Palin as a show. Hell yes show her off, she has done more in the short time than the dem's choice. Dem's say would Palin be able to handle the gov if something happens to Mac. The dem's are more concerned with the vp choice that they make me think they have a bigger plan for Biden. Could the dems be planning a short term if obama is elected. Thanks for the check Gov. we'll miss you.
Let's see, a mother of five, a stay at home Dad who also works on the slope and races snow machines, from the PTA to the White House, took on the good old boys and won, had a baby while fighting big oil companies, gave the people of the State money rather than the government, complained about an ex brother in law no one in this State would want as a relative, unlike anyone else out there used her work e mail to send a message to her husband (probably time to feed the baby), married twenty years, eloped to save money, union member, fisher woman, NRA member, knows how to shoot a gun, ex beauty queen, son is in the Army going to Iraq, etc,. and she is only 44. I bet Obama is now wishing he went with Hilary.
sourdoughjoe, what exactly? I don't see how being mayor of the two people in Wasilla and then governor of all 25 people in Alaska hardly counts as being ready to lead the United States.
I disagree with Palin on just about everything, but I like her as a person and I think it's a shame that she's essentially being used in this campaign.
If McCain really wanted to pick a woman he should hace picked Kay Bailey Hutchinson, that would have made much more sense.
If you put aside the fact that OMG SHES FROM ALSAKA!!!11!!, you've got to wonder what McCain is thinking.
I trust and respect a person who has proven her leadership and princples as a mayor and two years as an effective governor than any of the lawyers and career politicians out there as "second in command".
America needs somebody like Sarah Palin to represent the US with intregity and executive experience.
I commend her visiting the AK National Guard troops overseas.
Valkyrie,
She's a solid conservative with a solid history fighting for the people and against corruption. She should be on any VP list whether female, from Alaska, etc. or not.
Well I've been saying that she would be McCain's VP for awhile now.
I am currently poking myself in both eyes.
Valkyrie,
alaska only has 24 people because I left.
And both people in Wasilla are very nice.
Now, the rest of you libs, you would have rather that McCain picked one of the good old boys! I think you are so angry about this because you know that your ship just took a huge cannonball through the bow!
HEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPP!!!!!!!
My party is drowning in Liberal theology!!
This will be your third time down, ever ask yourself why?
Do you think Barbara Boxer and Nancy pelosi represent most americans?
NO they dont!
Most of the problem with McCain has been his tendency to be in the middle, toward the left, and Palin, even as only the running-mate, offers a counter to that.
My guess on what McCain was thinking: fight a youthful, inexperienced, well-spoken and attractive liberal democrat person of a minority population of our country with a youthful, inexperienced, well-spoken and attractive conservative republican person of a minority population of our country. 'Course I'm over-generalizing, as I hope neither party would be so utterly superficial...
And just as Obama is much more than that short list suggests, so is Palin and it seems like McCain was thinking pretty clearly. It will be an interesting next couple of months...
Ok, so how does that make her ready to lead the nation?
I don't think someone in say California or New York is going to say:
"She's a solid conservative with a solid history fighting for the people and against corruption".
They're going to want to see things she's actually gotten done, not a nice fluffy statement that just about anyone could make.
With this pick John McCain has locked down Alaska (surprise)... But he needs to be able to market Palin to people in the big states, and they're going to want to some some actual accomplishments.
I think McCain is primarilly going to use Palin to appeal to the (ignorant) one issue voters out there, specifically those who care about gun control. Palin makes the perfect counter to Biden as far as that goes. A lot of voters are going to say, "DAY WAN TAKE WAY MA GUNNSSS", at which point Palin can point out her lifetime NRA membership can strong pro-gun background.
Plus if the race comes down to who can catch the most Alaska King Crab, Palin 's got that part down.
EGAD!...
Looks like us Alaskans are forever gonna be stuck with scandalously high prices for our own fuels. Everybody else but Alaskans have their greasy hands on the handle of The Big Dipper.
Look for a big-media rollout of hyperinflated factoids about AGIA, arctic-gas, and the word "trillions" to be used over and over again.
.......the US-Economy has already been robbed of trillions of dollars [just look at the National Debt figures]..
..now there will be huge gas-filled promises about a gas&gold rush in the north...
Trillions of cubic feet [already mortgaged many times]
Will Alaska's-bush end up paying for the sins of Texas Bu$h?
...expect to see a million gun-toting meth-heads moving north.
Political Dominos of Alaska
Politics is the process by which groups of people make decisions that affect others' lives. The term is generally applied to behavior within civil governments, but politics has been observed in all human group interactions, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions.
Politics consists of "social relations involving authority or power"[1] and refers to the regulation of a political unit, [2] and to the methods and tactics used to formulate and apply policy.[3]
Political science (also political studies) is the study of political behavior and examines the acquisition and application of power. Related areas of study include political philosophy, which seeks a rationale for politics and an ethic of public behavior, and public administration, which examines the practices of governance.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska-- The Alaska Gas pipeline project is taking a big step forward.
Gov. Sarah Palin officially awarded the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act license to TransCanada.
The Canadian pipeline company may now start building the pipeline, which will ultimately stretch more than 1,700 miles, from Prudhoe Bay to Alberta.
Pipeline construction will employ about 15,000 workers at its peak, according to the governor.
"Finally, after decades of dreaming and hoping and praying for a gas line in Alaska, literally decades of hoping for this, finally, today, as we sign into law the vehicle that we need in order to progress this project," said Gov. Sarah Palin.
Palin would like to see additional legislation in January that includes a worker training program to get Alaskans jobs with the project.

HOUSTON -- The chief of BP PLC's American division said Monday that the oil giant is on target to finish replacing and fixing miles of pipeline on Alaska's North Slope.
That comes about two years after corrosion-induced leaks crimped the nation's oil supply and prompted harsh criticism of the company.
After a massive oil spill in March 2006 and the subsequent discovery of corroding pipes five months later, London-based BP said it would replace 16 miles of the 22 miles of transit pipeline it operates at Prudhoe Bay, the nation's largest oil field.
Bob Malone, president and chairman of Houston-based BP America, says the company was on schedule to complete the $260 million project by year's end.
Malone also acknowledged BP still has lots of work to do in Alaska. He says BP continues to test sections of pipeline for corrosion.

The White House is energized and excited by this choice. President Bush called Governor Palin just before his meeting with President Kikwete of Tanzania. He said that the McCain-Palin ticket is very strong. He wished her good luck, told her that she will be a fantastic vice presidential candidate, and that he is looking forward to a great victory in November.

Today Congress is going to leave Washington for another recess without taking any action to make our country more energy independent, in addition to refusing to allow a vote on energy legislation. It looks like they will also leave town without allowing votes on nominations for positions throughout the federal government regarding energy.
For example, although the Senate just spent two weeks debating a bill regarding the Commodities Future Trading Commission, one Senate Democrat has put a hold on three nominations to the Commission. Additionally, another Senate Democrat has a hold on our nominee to serve as the Deputy Secretary of Energy. And by holding up these nominations, Senate Democrats are putting more road blocks in the path of our ability to determine America's path to addressing our comprehensive energy needs.
These positions should be filled, and we would urge them to allow for there to be an up or down vote. And if the vote succeeds, great. And if they don't, then we will go back to the drawing board. But simply not voting should not be an option.

Valkyrie,
How about some gimmies and the groups that appreciate it:
She's anti-corruption (and regularly is fighting it)
She's pro-life and can prove it
She's pro gun rights
She's upheld her campaign promises
She's helped with Energy demands (without asking for Washington to do it)
She's a woman (Should it matter? No, but we all know it has an effect)
She's fighting for sustained energy independence (AGIA anyone?)
She's NOT a standard big money east cost politician
She's a normal person, and still takes part in the daily routines
Definitely not a 1 issue woman.
The list goes on...
Valkyrie - Those who are going to vote against McCain for choosing an "inexperienced" running mate are already not likely to vote for Obama, who is himself inexperienced and actually going for that top spot, not the second-in-command. That argument is fruitless.
Palin will appeal to voters like me, who were (and still are) unhappy with McCain as the Presidential nominee; those of us who want to see actual conservatism in the White House someday and it has less to do with issues of gun control or the NRA as you might think.
I am sorry,
that was mean.
I should be a nicer blogger.
now who wants pie!?
Plebian, I wasn't trying to say that she herself is one issue. I'm just saying that I can see her as a good source of votes from one issue voters.
Dana VanDam, I'm sure it does. But for a lot people gun control is a huge issue and a main reason they don't like the Democrats, and for those people when they look at ontheissues.org and see Biden with an F and Palin with an A from the NRA... it makes up their minds for them.
Valkyrie: I heard your ignorant sentiment echoed on national news earlier about Governor Palin lack of experience "being in charge of a State where 13 people and some caribou live". That is an insult to all Americans and as prejudicial and uninformed as it gets. Every American no matter where they live is important and deserves the kind of leadership in Government that Sara Palin has provided in Alaska.
As commander of the Alaska National Guard she has experience. As the Governor, inheriting the largest per capita spending budget in the United States and revising our tax policy to create a huge surplus, she has experience. As a conservative politician, she has experience. As a reform candidate, she has experience. As an Alaskan she has experience.
Alaskans could ask for no better representation in Washington. It is going to be tough to find an equally qualified person to replace her as Governor.
ONAPA, except that some states are obvisouly more important. Hence why almost every other state has more electoral votes. Why do you think presidential canidates rarely if at all come here?
"Every American no matter where they live is important and deserves the kind of leadership in Government that Sara Palin has provided in Alaska."
Like being under investiagtion for ethics violations?
I want Palin's theme song to be The Day my Mama socked it to the Harper Valley PTA... and her to ride down streets of Washington on a snowmachine during an ice storm! In her Miss Alaska bikini!!!
ARRRRGGGG!!! I am blown away by this decision on so many levels!!!
I feel McCain is totally using our govenor for her beauty and brains... playing the minority chick card!! This is mockery!! Our nation is in the midst of the worst economic crisis we have since the Great Depression, we have European realtions hanging by a thread, we have an energy crisis like no other ... and Palin is going to talk hockey with the Russians!!! WTF!!!
I have immense respect for Sarah as the govenor of Alaska... she is doing a great job.... so finish the job build a steller reputation in office and then take it to the big boys club of America!! You are totally being used as a pawn...
In addition... Hillary's reputation has been nurtured by her actions for decades!!! How can you rationalize bringing in Sarah in to fill mama Hillary's place... you can't use Hillarys words days after, a month after her loss and think your entitled to her glory... it is a slap in the faces especially as Hillary supporters are still morning her loss. It like your dad remarring a month after your mom dies!!
And come on McCain... at try and memorize a 3000 word speech...
Obama himself keeps saying America needs change.
VP Sarah Palin will provide that change, with experience and principles.
The worst part is that Palin is an OK gov and she's abandoning AK in our time of need. I'm afraid that we will end up with another corporate toady like Frank Murkowski if she goes.
Fortunately I don't think that her and Old Man McCain have much of a chance...
Electorial votes are based on population. Since when is the importance of a state based soley on population? What if the Florida Keys were attacked by Cuba? Would it not be important to defend those islands and the Americans that live there? How important to America are the resources of Alaska? Ask those defending polar bears using fear and hype. Ask those defending our National Wildlife Refuges who will never comprehend the immense amount of land undeveloped in Alaska. California can keep their 54 Congressional seats as long as they keep all the insane people that are represented by those delegates. By adding our governor to the White House ticket, Alaska increases it's representation in the nation's capital by 25% and that's a good thing.
Yes, by comparing our Governor welcoming an open investigation into her actions and dismissing her chief of staff for inappropriate actions she has shown leadership and not the typical political cover-up. Again your ignorance and prejudice is apparent by implying that an investigation spurred by dismissal of a public appointee demonstrates lack of leadership. If anything this controversy is preparing her to face the onslaught of attacks for simply being who she is, unpopular with the establishment and popular with the people.
"Electorial votes are based on population. Since when is the importance of a state based soley on population?"
When it's the context of the conversation?
"Yes, by comparing our Governor welcoming an open investigation into her actions and dismissing her chief of staff for inappropriate actions she has shown leadership and not the typical political cover-up."
Why is there an investigation in the first place?
The people comparing Obama's inexperience to Palin's are missing the fact that Sarah will be a VICE president.
Valkyrie
"some states are obvisouly more important. Hence why almost every other state has more electoral votes."
Some states are obvisouly more important. Hence why almost every other state has more developed natural resources, industries, finacial institutes, developed agriculture, money to be made.
Simple Alaska has not developed natural resources, industries, finacial institutes, developed agriculture, money to be made.
Hence why almost every other state has left Alaska behind.
Valkyrie
"Why do you think presidential canidates rarely if at all come here?"
Same reason as your above question. Presidential canidates go where the money is and that is in states that have developed natural resources, industries, finacial institutes, developed agriculture, money to be made.
Valkyrie
"Like being under investiagtion for ethics violations?"
It's common for Presidential canidates or Presidential Canidates or Canidates of any office go under investiagtion by finger pointers of all other canidates. Gov. Palin's investiagtion for ethics violations
will be found, false for that reason.
As VP; Gov. Palin can ensure we move forward with Alaska's move into th 21th century thru developed natural resources, industries, finacial institutes, developed agriculture, money to be made, livelyhoods improved, resources at affordable prices. Palin as VP will be more able to help us. Gov. Palin has insured us these:
Governor Signs Administrative Order 242
DNR to Provide Support in Gas Development
Palin Signs Energy Package
To Help Alaskans Combat High Energy Costs
Governor Names Mike Nizich Chief of Staff
Served as Acting Chief Since May
Palin Signs AGIA License Bill

Plus:
Gov. Sarah Palin will legislate more jobs & a worker training program for Alaskans in January that she'll address before she's VP. Sarah Palin.

P_Davenport, great! So, why should anyone outside of Alaska care?
i care,
now how about that pie?
Just a couple comments:
first, 2cold4me, this is a THREAD, not a BLOG.
second, why are so many people claiming a female is a "minority"?
lastly, Oh_please said:
"The worst part is that Palin is an OK gov and she's abandoning AK in our time of need. I'm afraid that we will end up with another corporate toady like Frank Murkowski if she goes."
Exactly right! As I posted earlier on this thread, this is the scary part of Palin being on the ticket...Its a sad day for Alaska...
I was an Obama supporter, but this morning that all changed. Sarah will be a great VP! I am proud to call AK my home and Sarah Palin my governor and VP. Good luck Sarah! Our nations future is looking up.
The point isn't
Valkyrie
"why should anyone outside of Alaska care?"
Because Gov. Sarah Palin has signed legislation that will totally move Alaska into the 21th Century & out of the 19th Century. Where Alaska has been stuck. Gov. Sarah Palin has lead Alaska into the 21th century with DNR to Provide Support in Gas Development, AGIA License Bill. Alaska's "Oil" "natural gas", "fuel", "jet Fuel" "natural resouces" "infrastructure" as to why should anyone outside of Alaska care.
It's time for Alaska and Gov. VP Sarah Palin.
Laws are in place on the state and federal level to move Alaska forward. My question Valkyrie; Will you be reaping the rewards of her efforts on Alaska's "Oil" "natural gas", "fuel", "jet Fuel" "natural resouces" "infrastructure" ? Are you taking the 1200?
The nation loved Bush's rebate. Ask them what they think of Alaska's rebate. You'll understand if you think a bit.
Gov. VP Sarah Palin & Alaska has a new image of the old "gold rush" of Alaska.
"2008 Golden Resources Rush"
I saw this movie once, "Always" and it kinda applies here. Palin the political flash-fire...bright and hot, but burns out quickly, Stevens, the long slow burn, a smoldering political flame, but the fire burns for a long time. Take it as you will.
Google what the Nation, Canada, the world has to say about AGIA. And how they perceive AGIA.
P_Davenport, it's something I will look into.
Put a 'G' in front of Obama and you get 'Go Bama" LOL..........

First of all, I don't want Governor Palin to leave Alaska. She does have some more work to do here. However, look at it this way. Look at what she has done in two years here.
Also, so what if McCain is using her? Does anyone really think that she will just let herself be used? Does anyone think that she will be walked over? I know that the legislature has walked all over her here in Alaska (please note sarcasm...)
Palin 2012!
The most unqualified vp choice ever. Grabbing for women's votes pure and simple. American women are so mucher smarter than that. A heart beat away from the presidency. That's scary! Just look at the stunned look of surprise on the republican faces...Sahah who? Pollen? This is embarrassing as an Alaskan. Sahah may be qualified to be our governor, but please the vp is so much more a position that requires experience. Let's look more closely into that fired state trooper?
Go Obama/Biden 2008!
Whats all this talk about pie we all meetin at hilltop for pie what time. Sarah in a bikini you guys behave.
Just like Walter Hickel. She dumps us instead of finishing her job. Wally at least it turned out had some character; obviously Sarah had me fooled.
dog
So I assume that George Washington's Vice President had a great deal of experience when he took the job. Lack of experience is the dumbest concept anyone has come up with. The founding fathers all lacked experience and they seemed to have all done a decent job. In politics way to often long time experience simply means you owe a great deal of favors to special interest groups. Lack of experience may mean, you haven't been around long enough to be bought out yet.
You have to put yourself in Gov Palin shoes. With her being a politician, good or bad, if she would have refused the offer, she altimately would commited political suicide. I WAS SO PUMPED UP THIS MORNING I WAS READY TO CAST MY VOTE RIGHT THEN AND THERE!!! CONGRATULATIONS GOV PALIN, SEN. MCCAIN!!! I KNEW THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN WHEN THEY MENTIONED HER BEING ON THE LIST BACK MAY. WOW. SIMPLY AMAZING!!! NOW I HAVE SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO THIS FALL BESIDES FOOTBALL ON THE WEEKENDS.
Ha ha, it is funny how many Outsiders have begun to post here now that our beloved Palin is the current VP pick and future President in 4 or 8 years.
>>>
Republican Presidents and Democratic Congresses are what this nation needs to continue to be the Greatest Nation on Earth.
ACTUALLY I MEANT PRESIDENT MCCAIN, VICE PRESIDENT PALIN!
ANYONE WHO VOTES OBAMA-BIDEN DEFINITELY NEED TO OPEN THEIR EYES AND REALLY SEE THAT THOSE TWO MEN ARE ONLY FOR THEMSELVES. WHO HONESTLY HEARD OF BARRACK HUSSEIN OBAMA TWO YEARS AGO. HONESTLY THE ONLY REASON HE IS WHERE HE IS BECAUSE I HATE BRING IT UP BUT IT IS TRUE AS THE SKY IS BLUE, ITS BECAUSE HE ISN'T WHITE. HE'S FROM ILLINOIS AND RECEIVED MILLIONS FROM OPRAH AND LOBBYIST SUPPORTING LAWYERS. WE DO NOT NEED ANOTHER LAWYER IN THE WHITEHOUSE. DOES WILLIAM J. CLINTON SOUND FAMILIAR/MONICA LEWINSKY SOUND FAMILIAR???
ALSO WHEN YOUR RUNNING MATE HAS COME OUT AND SAID THAT YOU'RE NOT FIT TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, WHY WOULD ANYONE CHOOSE THAT PERSON AS THEIR PICK FOR VP.
Wonder how many new names will appear in the next few weeks. The way some of them are writing novels, won't be surprised if the New Miner starts a hundred word limit. At least Governor Palin has brought national attention to little old Fairbanks. No matter what your opinion, remember ALASKAN GIRLS KICK AS-.
Since Dick Cheney has spent the last seven years hiding out in a secret underground bunker, will Sarah Palin follow suit and hide out in a secret igloo?
Alaskan_Curmudgeon is lame and I suspect is not a true Alaskan. Coldblooded lose the all caps already.
McCain & Palin are the right choice. As a U.S. Marine infantry veteran I would be proud to serve and fight under them. I was not so willing under Bush & Company.
I love it how people get all defensive if you mention barak and islam, but if you mention barak and being a socialist or a marxist, they don't say anything.
Now if people on tv could say her name right, we'll be ok. You know that all the press were drooling over obama/biden and every word they say and every word they speak (its about hope and change after all) but they ovbiously didn't even listen to the speech cause half the press can't say PAY-lin. IF they watched the speech they'd know that. But I'm sure the media is completely fair in their coverage of the election.
and everyone worried about the vp job - remember al gore was VP, if he could manage, I know she'd be OK. Well, Al Gore did invent the internet though so...
Well what a pleasnt surprise - Having had my son up there for a few years I have read about her often and with a son that is going with our boys to Iraq I like her even more. I like it a lot!!
RoofTopVoter- TVs are for idiots. The powerful only pay attention to the written medium, even blogs. That is how I knew Palin would be McCain's pick. Palin will be the President after McCain!
HEY MEL1776. How is this. I'm really excited about this ticket and had the caps on to grab peoples attention. It obviously grabbed yours. BTW THANK YOUR FOR YOUR SERVICE FOR OUR COUNTRY. FROM ONE VETERAN CURRENTLY SERVING TO ONE WHO HAS SERVED. I SERVED UNDER CLINTON/GORE, BUSH/CHENEY, AND NOW I WILL BE PROUD TO SERVE UNDER MCCAIN/PALIN AND IF OBAMA/BIDEN ARE ELECTED I WILL PROUDLY SERVE UNDER THEM AS WELL.
Oh how I love the slanted views of both sides. I support Barack Obama, but I am quite disappointed with his choice of running mate. Even more disappointing...McCain selecting Palin as his. So, since some of the McCain/Palin supporters claim that Sarah Palin is more experienced than Barack Obama, I thought I would jot down a few things so that they could actually look at the qualifications and make informed statements. Let's start with Governor Palin, as her "qualifications" definitely comprise the shorter of both lists.
Palin:
- B.A. in Journalism from the University of Idaho
- Wasilla City Council
- Mayor of Wasilla, AK
- Governor of AK
Obama:
- B.A. in Political Science with an emphasis in International Relations from Columbia University in New York
- J.D. (which is a law degree for those who might be confused) from Harvard
- was also an editor for the Harvard Law Review and worked for various Law Firms (but hey, hockey moms are definitely more qualified)
- Taught Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago Law School
- Illinois State Senator elected in 1996, 1998 and 2002
- United States Senator (2005 - present) (and in this election, I believe he took 70% of the vote)
- let's also remember that he has published 2 books and has been actively involved in youth organizations.
- and for all of you especially ignorant people out there that like to refer to him as "Osama"...he's Christian [gasp].
I guess there are a few more things worth mentioning. Let's take a look at work history. Sarah Palin was a local sports reporter and did some commercial fishing. She also raised quite a few children (my hat is off to her for that). Barack Obama worked for various law firms, worked at the Business International Corporation, the New York Public Interest Research Group. He also worked as a community organizer for Developing Communities Project (which I might add, is a church-based group, for those of you who may still doubt he's Christian). He also has 2 children, but I guess no one wants to discuss them since he wasn't a stay-at-home dad. He was out in the real world, getting the experiences that make him a strong political candidate. There are many more I could list, but everyone on here obviously has access to the internet if they cared enough to do the research.
So who is the more qualified person? My whole life, I have dreamed of seeing a woman hold the highest elected office that our country has to offer. I just hope that when that day comes, it's a more competent, educated and qualified woman than Sarah Palin.
And yet another lie from Palin. Does anyone else clearly remember her saying during her campaign that she had no desire to be involved in federal government, and that she would fulfill her commitment to Alaska, no matter what? Because I do. And for those that asked, my understanding is that if she gets VP, and Parnell gets voted into federal office, then commissioner of administration Annette Kreitzer becomes governor. Sad thing is, I bet this whole Branchflower investigation now suddenly just goes away. Man, she was in over her head in the swimming pool of state politics, now she just jumped off the edge of an ocean going cruise ship!
Valkyrie,
In the context of the conversation, each delegate is as important as any other regardless of the state or territory. Some state delegates are split between candidates. Therefore, your argument doesn't hold water.
As to your next question: "Why is there an investigation in the first place?"
In the first place Sara's sister went through a messy divorce. The Governor's ex brother-in-law released his personnel file to the public with details about the case and the former public safety commissioner is understandably disgruntled about his dismissal. There is more than enough accusations and implications stemming from the ex brother-in-law and Mr Monegan. The only thing the investigation has revealed so far is that the Governor's chief of staff made a request to have the trooper's record reviewed. Of course if her staff and family had ignored the death threats, and possible cover-up by the Department of Public Safety, there would have been no investigation into her ethics.
If she did take a personal role in the request to fire her ex brother-in-law, or a departmental review of misconduct, then it can be argued that she was doing her executive duty but had a conflict of interest. Also, if she was unhappy with the performance of the commissioner and his performance when handling those responsibilities or if she just felt like he was part of a perceived problem, she had every right and a responsibility to replace him. She could have easily went on the offensive and been vindictive and specify why she fired the commissioner, but doing that could drive a wedge between the Governor and the Department. Instead she recognizes that the Department of Public Safety has historically had a bad reputation and needs to regain and maintain the public trust to be effective in their duties.
Either she used undue influence or she didn't. Either she was fighting corruption or she wasn't. Her husband and her chief of staff asked the Commissioner for a review of the case. I don't think that was inappropriate given the history outlined in Trooper Wooten's file. The Legislature called for the investigation over a month after the Commissioner was fired. I can't help but feel that there are still some politically motivated legislators trying to subvert the Governor's popularity. More than a few of them took issue with AGIA and her plan to return some of the profit to the people (which is ok if they had a plan to help with the energy crisis, but they didn't).
Well, I am not real happy with Macain, and have had a hard time deciding on who to vote for. But now I can vote for Palin, even if the vote goes to Macain. If he kicks the bucket, we will have a young and conservative woman as president, a historical event of enormous proportions.
Aren't you Alaskans afraid of the attention she's going to bring to our amazing state by doing this.
Does anyone else feel betrayed by this? She didn't even think it over.
I guess her children being raised in Alaska doesn't matter to her that much.
I've been on the fence for a long time, but Mcain just lost my vote. I know and everyone else knows that there were better, more qualified choices for VP. But this election is just a game, and it's getting worst everyday.
I wish there was a way to boycott the elections without looking like a bum that doesn't vote.
Hmm... Risk a mccain heart attack and have an inexperienced vice president take over or risk a strong "inexperienced" speaker and have a good vice president take over just in case... Mccain just evened the playing field even though he was a bit higher than the dems. Gratz mccain, the best choice youve made...
YOU GO GIRL !!
Sorry, I had originally written that this morning, but it didn't post like I intended it to. Since then I (and pretty much everyone else in the state) have learned that the attorney general, not the comm. of administration is next in line. I apologize for my ignorance on that subject.
This has been a wonderful day. Like most people that try to follow the news, I thought Governor Palin out of the running a month ago. I was sure that it was Romney or Pawlenty. Me, I wanted JC Watts, an extreme longshot. But McCain came through.
I just went through every one of these comments, and it is such a joy to read the bitterness, and confusion, posted by the usual liberals. And all of the newcomers to our little DNM local conversations.
Gov. Palin, God bless you in your new found task. You make most Alaskans extremely proud.
By the way, I just sent a political contribution to McCain-Palin. The rest of you that support the ticket should do the same. Imagine the headlines tommorrow, or next week, about newly inspired contributions, and we all know that "...money is the mother's milk of politics...". I'd been refraining, until today.
chelly - sounds like the resume of an out of touch socialist elitist versus the resume of a decent hard working alaskan.
Also, there is a deadline for contributions, which is Sunday. That is because Sen. McCain made a pledge to use public campaign funding, and my understanding is that Monday the rules change for McCain-Palin. I think that the ticket has until then to opt out, but I dont know that for a fact. With enough enthusiasm, they might, and then be able to compete with Obama-Biden in advertizing.
Sen. Obama also pledged to use the level playing field of public financing, but he has since reneged on that pledge.
So, you supporters of McCain-Palin have about 48 hours to put your money where your mouth is.
Valkyrie is obviously not from Alaska. Probably New York or California.
While I really do hate to see the best Governor we have ever had leave. I really do hope she makes the White House. She is more experienced then the liberal camps Obama in many things including actually being a leader.
Pat
My bumper sticker:
SARAH PALIN VP (big letters)
John McCain for President (very small letters)
I have never read so many idiotic comments in my entire life. Its politics...HELLO!!!! Wake up people...What makes anybody here qualified to judge any of this? You are all armchair politicians that think because you watch FOXNEWS or CSPAN you know how to better run this country than the people that are doing it. You all make me chuckle.
Reckon how long before she will put Air Force One for sale on Ebay??
She will have a tough time facing the evil media who are actually the one that make the personal attacks on candidates. I feel really sorry for her kids cause, just like Obama's kids, they will suddenly be faced with the hell that is a 21st century election.
And I wonder when she will succome to Karl Rove and his cronies
Ahahaha, ill make a bid on Air Force One!
Sarah Palin is a great governer but she has NO experience on foreign policy. Foreign policy is something that must be thought on for a long time which most national senators and other lawmakers have. Sure Palin can sign a bill but if she were to become president would she take the right course of action on more important issues?
So much for Alaska being a blue state. This will sky rocket the Republicans in all districts and at all levels. What it does at the national level remains to be seen, but if she does a fraction of what she did here, say hello to President McCain, and say hello to a future presidential run by Sarah.
This is great fun!!!!
Thanks mikegolf!! You hit the nail on the head.
I understand that everyone who are Alaskans don't want to lose the best gov. we've ever had, but you have to stop and think about how much she could not only do for us but for everyone in the nation if she is elected as VP. It is a great honor and I also see why she couldn't refuse a chance of a lifetime. She takes great pride in what she does and hopefully, if all goes well, she will represent Alaska respectfully. Everyone who feels they have to bad mouth need to remember how old they are and maybe act they're age. She's a person who is trying to not only make it in this crazy world but is also trying to make a huge change and impact on this nation.
I'm proud of her.:)
I would love to see her elected as VP and bring the changes and fresh ideas that our country needs so badly. She is honest and sincere while at the same time refusing to back down from the opposition.
EuMesmo---
Does this mean that you have changed your support from Ron Paul to Palin-McCain? That's pretty cool.
-----------
mikegolf---
Sorry if the rest of us bothered you. You know, you do have the option of not reading these comments. There are other things to do, like playing golf. I know I prefer to do that.
Then you wouldn't be bothered by telling the rest of us how stupid we are compared to a superior intellect like yourself.
Glacierles - I love how you leave out Old Man McCain's sweetheart campaign loan scandal. Talk about sleazy...
But keep grasping at those straws, fella!
You know it was a good pick when: All the libs start going nuts.
While those on the right are guilty as well of this on occasion, those further left have this amazing ability to zero in on anything stinky from the other side of the field while simultaneously swearing that what everyone else smells from their side of the room is really fresh, pure and sweet.
It's an interesting phenomenon. One that will be hotly disagreed with, of course...
I am so grateful to live and work in this great State of Ours! I am so voting for McCain; War Hero and Palin; best Govenor ever! I'll be donating within the next 48 hours!
She's even gonna be the best looking Vice in HISTORY
I think she should challenge Oprah to a fight, televised.
I also think ANY woman and family who CHOOSE to raise children with disabilities are the STRONGEST people in the world! I'd say about 90% or more people who have posted here are PRO McCain/Palin...and I agree...Palin in 2012!
And Wooten and our recent prescription forging Trooper can take a flying leap with Monegan! They should be given one-way airfare OUT of our Great State!
Gles - McCain did it! I can't believe I will vote for him. To have McCain as a president hurts, but, to have Sarah as VP, PRICELESS!!! Go Sarah go!!!
AKLOWN - that is hilarious! Why anyone would listen to Oprah and make their Presidential choice based on her must not have a mind of their own! By the way, Ladies, WE have only had the right to VOTE for the last 88 years! Lets make this year the greatest year ever; VOTE and Vote for a man and a WOMAN in 2008!
parnell will be Lt gov for two more years.
Mandy if I am going to vote for a woman, for the vice presidency she better have more than a BA in journalism under her belt! This is the most unprofessional propagana I have ever witnessed in a major election!
andjustice4all - we all have a right to our own thoughts. I still can't believe the Dems chose Hussien Obama over Hilary who had WAY more experience. Do we really want another lawyer running our country? Or Biden, good ol' boys club - what change - they have not identified any changes except to raise taxes. Go over and support Dermot Cole's article then - you'll get no support there either. Do you even know what "propagana" is? First spell check. You can always change the channel and write in Ron Paul or yourself.
Oh geeze Mandy.. propaganda... and if I think this nation is being spoon fed a bunch of crap to create an irrational emotional response it is my right... do not patronize me mispelling a word...
Sarah is bringing momentum to the GOP ticket, she will energize many who felt their views were left off the table by the major candidates. I'm energized to vote for the only pro-second amendment, pro-anwr, and pro-family candidate in the presidential election. She has done more for Alaska than any Governor since Jay Hammond and the permanent fund.
I'll be one of the millions to proudly vote Sarah Palin and John McCain into the White House.
my oh my, &justas4all= you are the only one so far to post irrational emotional comments of all 214 posts. i suggest you get on with campaigning for Obama & company and just be lucky you can vote at all in this great country of ours. good luck to you & yours.
Who else saw "Palin" on Conan last night XD?
I am a Ron Paul man myself, but now with Sarah on the ticket, who knows, I am reconsidering. What a choice!! Go Sarah!!!
She should finish the job she started first. I guess being elected to serve only means "until something better comes along", not what the citizens who voted for you require. Shame on you, Mrs. Palin.
McCain just lost the election. Palin hasn't the experience to be VP of a WHOLE country, certainly not yet. Desperation move by an out-of-touch moron. Hillary's supporters will not abandon ship just to get a woman in the White House - they'll wait it out. 2012 isn't that far off.
True patriotism at work here - all Alaskans should vote McCain just because he picked Palin? No thanx.
What an honor! I heard a rumor in July when visiting Fairbanks she was being considered for VP while attending the Governors Annual Picnic. She is what this country needs! Go Sarah and go Alaska!
24 hours ago, as the spin cycle was in full force and I was working the grave shift, I wondered who was going to be McCain's pick. I read online the announcement would come at 8am AST.
Then I wondered to myself, I wonder if anyone knows where Palin is. The thought was more of shot in the dark than an actual belief that she would be given the VP slot.
I got off work and went home. I woke my kids and got them on their way to being ready for school and hit the internet to catch the latest news before bed and I see BREAKING NEWS.. Palin picked as VP.
I am thrilled for Alaska, for Mrs. Palin and her family and for all the little girls of America. I happen to have two of my own. This day is historic. This campaign is historic and I for one am excited to see how it all goes. The debate with Biden will be like Super Bowl Sunday. The bar is set so low for Palin she just has to remain breathing and it will be heralded as a success, but we all know she will do better than that.
ColdBlooded- please speak to your VAO concerning legal obligations of service members in elections. We don't want to end up like Zimbabwe.
Go SARAH!
Go SARAH!
Go SARAH!
(: Perhaps politics will be interesting the next two months as policies are debated :)
Oh_please---
Would you care to elaborate? Or are you one of those that just likes to make up derogatory names and inuendo?
McCain is not a saint, this I know, but I listen, read, and watch the news daily, and I have no idea what you are referring to.
OMG LOLZZ mccain just guarunteed three of the most useless electoral votes... douchetastic...
NO WAY, NO HOW, NO MCCAIN. The same goes for Palin. So much for the promises to clean up Alaska--I think there's still quite a bit of dirt left. Not to mention that we still have the highest fuel prices in the nation, are getting ready to enter a winter where many will be devastated by said fuel prices. $1,200 is not going to cut it and Palin has done nothing to invest long term solutions (what she has done could be easily undone in her absence). But I see she has the best personal energy plan of all--move her family to the lower 48!!!
Those of you on here who complain about having a lawyer run the country if Obama is elected should take note that chances a lawyer (Talis Colberg) will be running our state if McCain/Palin win.
You got that right Bob. The libs are all out today with their hate and their anger. I love it!
McCain's choice of Palin has given him the 2008 election. And Palin will be the President after him in 4 to 8 years.
Republican Presidents and Democratic congresses are what America needs.
Sarah as VP will be good for Alaska. She will have more power there to do something more.
marencolleen---
Do you think that winning Alaska is what this selection is about?
McCain already owns our 3 votes, despite the hopes and prayers of the liberals that post here. Obama was not going to win Alaska. No way. No how.
This is about solidifying the conservative base, and gaining a couple of million Hillary voters.
I love the fear being expressed by Obama supporters. Oh, if only he'd picked Hillary. But he didn't, he picked the loser, "Champ" Biden.
All you Sarah haters out there need to even the score by calling her S. Louise Palin.
The Red State Update guys wasted no time hopping on this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-W5IAPK0h...
isnt anyone else concerned that this piece of valley trash could be our next president. what if mccain dies? lord help us all.
Glacierles...
I did not say stupid..I said idiotic. I do not claim to be a superior intellect....that is why I am not making " IDIOTIC " comments on how best to govern our nation. I leave that to the people that know what they are doing. I do watch FOXNEWS and even CSPAN occasionally and I have even spent the night at a Holiday Inn Express..but even that does not qualify me to run our country....
mikegolf - Since you are not qualified to run our country, do you choose not to vote? Somehow I doubt it.
We make comments on how to best govern our nation, online, and in other conversations, in order to not only discuss our personal feelings but to perhaps influence the voting choices of others, thus directing our governance.
mikegolf-do you really feel you are not qualified to run our nation? If you meet the age and citizenship requirement I don't think you could do any worse than our last couple of presidents. Besides you can't actually pass any laws merely sign them or not sign them. You can deploy the military, but only if congress approves the budget. You can meet the heads of state of other countries and unless you're less than a box of rocks you won't do any worse than Bush. Remember the old saying the president proposes, congress disposes, in other words, congress not the president decides how this country is governed.
Alaska Voters are far too wise to be bought over by the Washington hype and lies that so often persuade folks outside to sell their souls in the hopes that big daddy Federal Government will "take care of the cry baby inner city voters." Here the folks understand that the Federal Government wants to OWN "We The People" so it gives only enough to entice voters to give up power and tax money to the Parasites in Washington D. C.
Sarah's strength of character is needed in Washington, although she will be missed here too. Mr. McCain could not have made a better choice than Sarah Palin. B. Hussein Obama was too stupid and proud to pick what for him would have been a far better running mate; Hillery Clinton. Personally I would not vote for B. Hussein Obama but an Obama & Clinton Democrat Ticket would have been tough to beat. i am glad B. Hussein Obama did not have the GUTS to choose properly (for his purposes)....
Congratulations, Palin family! You folks did great!
When Y'all sober up...
There is a lot to consider, there is the obvious, and then there is the not so obvious.
This is not a lock for the Republicans, and Governor Palin is going to face a lot of criticism from the left and the right for her short resume, and political leanings.
The ugliest contest in the world is the race for the presidency of the United States. I just hope that Alaska and Governor Palin do not suffer too greatly for being brought into it.
Vandam...
For your information...I do choose not to vote. I am in a position that it matters not who gets elected..I have to follow the orders of Commander and Chief. I do not have the priviledge of openly criticizing our President, regardless who it is. I support whoever is elected. If you feel that you can influence that then you are blind...
If you feel that your opinion will influence someone elses vote..then you are blind....
Icerider...
That is President Bush...it is people like you that we are a laughing stock to the rest of the world....
Just wondering HOW her son got stationed in Alaska ... supposedly if this is your home state, you can only be stationed here (Army anyway) if you have an eligible hardship in your family. This is what my son and myself were told. My son requested to be stationed here and has been denied, denied. As I was a single parent and am medically disabled, he was denied the opportunity to be close to home so he could assist because my medical concerns didn't meet their hardship requirements. I guess because my death is not imminent at this time. Maybe if you have been in for many years being stationed here would be possible. My son enlisted 2.5 years ago and has already done a 15 month deployment in Baghdad and has still been denied transfer to Alaska.
Guess special considerations are something Sarah Palin expects.
I do think she has been good for Alaska, however, after reading & re-reading the transcripts of the investigation into her ex-brother-in-law I feel she wanted to be treated special & still does. Even the trooper didn't take any of the moose he killed on her sister's tag .. but Sarah and her family put it in their freezers knowing it was an illegal kill. And the concerns about her judgement continues. But she is pretty, guess that counts a lot in some people's minds.
No wonder we got the energy money, she had been talking to McCain or representatives for well over 6 months about being his VP pick. and No, I do NOT know which ticket I will vote for in November.
I believe that her son is here becasue that is what he asked for when he enlisted. You are usually given choice of duty assignment and or military occupation specialty.
mikegolf-you are actually as dumb as you sound, I thought you were just kidding. Do you really not know that this is how the government works, or that this is how the founding fathers designed it to work. Wow, another chapter case just waiting to happen.
mikegolf - I'll take your words at face value, although frankly, it sounds like poppycock to me. That being said, you can consider me blind if you so choose. I consider your outlook on life rather sad and almost worthy of pity. Not a world I want to live in. Have at it.
(especially since you did just openly criticize the President - I'm sure that your pseudonym would hide you well if necessary....)
truthinnews,
redleg93 is right, recruits can get choice of duty station or job and sometimes both when they enlist. It all depends on that ASVAB score and the willingness of the person to wait for the right time to enlist. It took me 13 years to get to Alaska after two other overseas tours and Alaska was my first preference for "overseas" duty. Alaska is a popular choice for military service and retirement. Maybe it's because of the political climate.
Short Resume?? Oh and I suppose B.O. has a better resume? If you call voting present most of the time an accomplishment, he still hasn't done jack.
Icerider....
Who sounds like the idiot? Our founding fathers designed our govt. to work this way? They designed it so that idiots like you that has no clue what they are talking about can sit around and watch CSPAN and think they are govt officials...
Give me a break....
Vandam..
Your a smart one...
As Alaska citizens we have lost another battle with Washington. As vice president Sarah they will control and spend our 18 billion a week on Iraq. I believe in a free world that Sarah can request a change to her nomination to Obama instead.
