Student Artist of the Week — April 12
Published Saturday, April 12, 2008
Jared Isaacson started art classes with the hope of besting his older brother, but his teacher, Greg Gustafson, said the sophomore has become a talented and creative artist.
“He is never at a loss for ideas and usually has three or four projects going at once,” Gustafson said.
Gustafson adds Isaacson has tremendous work ethic and pushes the limits of clay with a wide variety of ambitious designs.
“Jared can work quickly, but he also has the patience needed for some of his more intricate designs,” he said.
Isaacson said he is still learning and experimenting with his art so he isn’t sure if it will play a role in his future plans.
Those plans include going to college and focusing on math and science so he can become an aeronautical engineer.
In his spare time, Isaacson is involved in various sports including varsity football, where he is the starting cornerback.
Although he is not involved in a lot of art activities, Isaacson said he is best at drawing and woodwork. His favorite artist is Leonardo Da Vinci.
In Gustafson’s class, the art teacher said Isaacson posses the ability to not get discouraged when a project breaks or explodes in the kiln.
“Jared is that rare talented artist who I have never heard ask, ‘What should I make?’” Gustafson said. “He is a fountain of ideas.”
