Sara Olsen can remember listening to “The Phantom of the Opera” soundtrack in third grade, but she can’t remember when she first became interested in theater.

The Lathrop High School senior has brought her love of the stage to the school’s drama community for the past three years.

“She is an excellent dramatic artist and has been cast in a wide variety of roles because of her versatility and emotional depth,” her drama teacher, Rhonda Boynton said.

Olsen said her mother and most of her mother’s side of the family love theater and are active in local theater productions.

Although Olsen said she prefers to use audience appreciation instead of trophies to measure her acting successes, she has won a leadership award for participating in Drama Club at school.

“”She is an outstanding leader and team player,” Boynton said. “She works well with others and models and teaches our younger students.”

Boynton describes Olsen as determined, creative and a quick study who not only takes direction well but goes beyond the suggestion. Olsen is a dedicated actress who develops each character in depth.

“She understands her character is able to portray them realistically and artistically,” Boynton said.

Olsen said she is planning to get a woodworking apprenticeship to become a carpenter. She is interested in carpentry because she likes to build things and also it will give her experience when it comes to building sets.

“I definitely plan on taking part in theater after high school,” Olsen said. “I would like to try and direct a show myself someday.”
