FAIRBANKS — Fairbanks-based freelance writer and author Ray Bonnell, who produces the “Sketches of Alaska” column for the News-Miner’s Sundays section, is moving into the world of publishing with his first book.

“I’ve had readers persistently asking me to produce a book, and I’ve decided to do it,” Bonnell stated in an email about his upcoming work, “Interior Sketches.”

The book will be about 120 pages and include more than 50 drawings of historic sites, plus maps and additional drawings of Alaska scenes. Bonnell has initiated a Kickstarter project to fund the publishing costs and would appreciate your support. (For those of you not familiar with Kickstarter, it is an Internet site for group funding of creative projects.)

The fundrasing period ends Dec. 19. If you make a pledge for $30 you can receive a copy of the book when printed. There are also some other rewards for pledges at $5 and above. Pledge if you can (minimum pledge is $1) and tell all your friends about it. The only way this Kickstarter project will succeed is by involving as many people as possible. The easiest way to find Bonnell’s page is to go to and type in “Ray Bonnell” in the search field.
