SITKA, Alaska - Work is under way in Sitka for a new alternative school.

The Daily Sitka Sentinel reports (http://is.gd/CzwTFt) crews are demolishing the Pacific High School building.

Sunland Development of Homer has won the $2.6 million contract to build the new high school.

The 5,300-square-foot building could be completed by summer, weather permitting.

Pacific High School students are meeting in the nearby Southeast Alaska Career Center until the new building is completed.
