FAIRBANKS — The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly will get a chance to take a closer look at the borough’s efforts to negotiate a contract with the borough’s newly unionized employees during its work session tonight.

The borough administration has brought forward an ordinance that would authorize it to make its last-and-final offer to the union of 56 mostly managerial employees if upcoming mediation fails to break the impasse.

The meeting is schedule to begin at 5:30 p.m., and the agenda also includes a review of ordinances that would create two new positions, one of which is grant funded, and a resolution supporting a state grant for natural gas facilities on the North Slope.

The items will all be up for a public hearing and a vote at the body’s regular meeting next week.
