FAIRBANKS - The back of the pack in the 2019 Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race will get to dodge another trail obstacle.

Because of hazardous ice conditions, including overflow and windblown snow on the Chena River coming into Fairbanks, the finish line has been moved from the Morris Thompson Visitors Center to the bridge on Nordale Road, the Quest announced Wednesday afternoon.

The change cuts about 14 miles from the race route. The finish line will be at Mile 882. Thirteen mushers have already completed the race. Rookie Martin Apayauq Reitan is the next musher expected to finish. At 2:30, he was camped approximately 18 miles from Nordale Bridge.

To reach Nordale Bridge, drive 10 miles down Chena Hot Springs Road. Turn right on Nordale Road. Drive a couple miles down the road and the bridge will be visible. A large parking lot is located at the bridge.
