JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska - More Alaska-based soldiers are scheduled to return to Anchorage this weekend after a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan.

U.S. Army Alaska says in a release that about 300 soldiers from the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division will return Sunday to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

About 3,500 soldiers deployed to eastern Afghanistan last year. Since then, about 500 support and advance personnel have returned.

The first main planeload of soldiers returned Thursday.

Officials say the 2,400 soldiers remaining in Afghanistan should be home in the next few weeks.
