FAIRBANKS — The Fairbanks teenager who had been missing since Thursday was found Tuesday afternoon walking along a highway in western Washington. He was unharmed and is being returned to Alaska.

Fairbanks Police Officer Doug Welborn said he got a call from a Washington State Patrolman that Weston Luther, 15, was picked up while walking along Interstate 82 a few miles from Yakima, Wash.

Luther’s mother, Marcey Luther, reported Luther missing last week after he left home with his school backpack Thursday morning and never checked in at school. Luther went to middle and elementary school in Fairbanks and recently had moved back to Alaska from Mesa, Ariz., where he had been living with his grandparents.

Welborn said he did not have any information Tuesday about how Luther got to Washington State but said he expected he would know more today.
