FAIRBANKS—The Minto Spring Carnival sled dog race is scheduled to start Thursday and run through Saturday.

The race, which generally runs Friday-Sunday but was moved up a day this year because of Easter Sunday, begins Thursday with a 9.5-mile women’s race.

There is a $50 cash only entry, and the women’s drawing will be at 11 a.m. with the race beginning at 2 p.m. There is an eight-dog limit for this race.

The men’s race, which costs $75, is a 10-dog limit, 14-mile event. The men’s drawing is scheduled for Friday morning at 10, and the race will follow, beginning at 1 p.m.

For information, please call Lloyd Charlie at 798-7527.

Spring Fling

With the Beat Beethoven 5K scheduled for next Saturday, runners are given an opportunity to warm up for the event with the Spring Fling race this Saturday.

The Spring Fling has been voted “best little 5K South of the Arctic Circle” seven years in a row and is a great way to start your 2012 summer running season.

Registration starts at 10 a.m. at the University of Alaska Patty Center, and the race begins at 11 a.m.

There is no entry fee, but donations are accepted to support high school running in Fairbanks.

For more information, call 451-0498.

Skeet shoot

The Breakup shoot at the Eielson Skeet Range is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

Registration is at 9:30 a.m. with shooting beginning at 10 both days.

For additional information, call 377-5338.

Contact the News-Miner sports department at 459-7581.
