To the editor:

Some of the candidates are running ads that intimate that their opponents have a nefarious reason for trying to defeat them. Thank goodness someone is minding the store and knows that a gift of $2 billion to an industry whose profits are already some of the highest in history is wrong.

I have to wonder what’s in the gift for those candidates/politicians who are pushing for this no-strings-attached giveaway. Gov. Parnell’s attempt to give this gift to the oil companies was supported by Reps. Tammie Wilson and Alan Dick. I’m glad they are not in charge of my household budget. Just think what you could do with a $2 billion gift every year into the future; it would probably make you part of the 1 percent.

Call this gift “tax reform” or giving the corporation their due, but I call it hogwash. Alaskan oil is Alaska’s golden egg. I sure never thought I would see anyone publicly advocate giving away the goose and the golden egg.

What is a fair wage? The oil companies got their profit and they don’t deserve a second helping. When you vote your ballot, remember who advocates gifting away your future permanent funds and who is basically advocating for Alaska state income taxes or sales taxes. Do not vote for John Coghill, Pete Kelly, Alan Dick, David Pruhs or Tammie Wilson. They bode ill for our future fiscal health. Vote on Nov 6, or vote today.
