Midnight Sun Intertribal Powwow continues today at Carlson Center

FAIRBANKS — Today’s activities at the 11th annual 2012 Midnight Sun Intertribal Powwow, which opened Friday evening at the Carlson Center, includes traditional powwow dancing, Blanket Dance, a 5 p.m. dinner/potlatch and coronation of Miss Midnight Sun at 9 p.m.

Gates for today’s program open at 11 a.m. with grand entry at noon. Events continue until a closing prayer at midnight.

The spiritual and cultural gathering resumes from

11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, with the ceremonial eagle release scheduled for 2 p.m.

This year’s powwow is dedicated in memory of Robert P. Maguire.
