ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A worker has died after being found unconscious at an island drilling site off Alaska's northern coast.

KTUU reports ( the unidentified man was found Sunday at the bottom of a drilling site stairwell. The man worked for Nabors Drilling, a contractor for Pioneer Natural Resources, at the Oooguruk drilling site, a six-acre island in the Beaufort Sea.

Richard Holschen is the on-duty police officer at Prudhoe Bay for the North Slope Borough and confirmed the death. He told KTUU the man was not killed, but didn't provide further details.

Pat Foley with Pioneer says it does not appear the incident was a work-related accident.

The body will be transported to Anchorage

The work site remains in stand-by mode, and grief counseling is being provided.
