Update: A resident shot, killed the grizzly after it tried to break into chicken coop. Story will be updated.

FAIRBANKS — A male grizzly bear was seen roaming Plack Road in the Chena Lake area during the weekend.

Alaska State Trooper Kennan Mulvaney said he received a note from dispatchers about a bear seen in the area when he came on shift Sunday. Troopers got a call about 7 p.m. that the bear was in a yard on Parham McCormick Road. The bear ran away when troopers approached, he said.

He advised people to leave the bear alone. They should contact the Alaska Department of Fish and Game if they want help removing the bear from their yard and should call 911 if there is an emergency, he said.
