Magnitude-5.9 earthquake near Aleutian Islands

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - An earthquake has struck near Alaska's Aleutian Islands, but no tsunami warning has been issued.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the temblor struck just before 8 p.m. Friday and had a preliminary magnitude of 5.9.

The earthquake was centered about 50 southeast of Attu Station and had a depth of 21 miles.

The National Weather Service says no tsunami is expected.
