Nov. 16, 2002 — Cody Burgess and Laura Seeger made impressive debuts and Lauren Marshall returned in a big way as the University of Alaska Fairbanks women’s basketball team opened the 2002-03 season in impressive fashion Friday night at the Patty Center.

Burgess, a junior college transfer from Leavenworth, Wash., poured in 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in her first game as a Nanook to lead UAF to an impressive 76-50 victory over the Warner Pacific Knights in front of 407 onlookers.

Nov. 16, 1987 — Winners in a botched lottery for farm land along Chena Hot Springs Road are asking the state Supreme Court to review how much they should be compensated for their troubles, if at all.

In the latest round, Superior Court Judge Richard Savell said the winners in the invalidated Potlatch Ponds lottery are not entitled to the theoretical value of farms they may have developed had they obtained the land.

Nov. 16, 1962 — Well, the North of the Range League gets under way again tonight and promises a good weekend on the courts.

The U of A Nanooks battle the Wainwright Manchus at 8 p.m. tonight on campus, then will hit the Eielson Outlaws on Saturday at

8 p.m. in the Lathrop gymnasium.

Nov. 16, 1937 — Doing their bit toward taking a national unemployment census, members of a committee of Fairbanksans are cooperating with the post office department to determine how many people there are in or near Fairbanks who are unemployed and want work, or are partly unemployed and want more work.

The national census began today, and the Fairbanks post office is putting unemployment report cards in every mail box and is delivering report cards to every residence in town.
