ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Anchorage School Superintendent Carol Comeau is saying goodbye after a 38-year career.

With school in session, Comeau spent the day Thursday making the rounds. Her stops included Ocean View Elementary where her career began as noon-time duty attendant.

Comeau's last working day will be June 30th. After that, she and her husband will drive to a new home in Bellingham, Wash., to reconnect with family.

Comeau told the Anchorage Daily News ( ) that one of her major disappointments has been that the district and city are not working closely enough together. She says she thinks the responsibility of both is to educate students to be college and career-ready. But, she says, the current administration has been more focused on the school district's budget.
