Jody Lynn Helms
Jody Lynn Helms was born into this world on April 12, 1963, and left it all too soon on Aug. 29, 2019. She was the sixth and final child of Vern and Margie (Anderson) Helms. Jody was not tall in stature but in spirit. Her can-do attitude, helpful nature, and delightfully sharp and sarcastic wit were her trademarks. Jody did not mince words and did not shy away from honesty. However, after setting you straight, she would make you laugh.
She devoted her life to caring for other people. Jody worked for the Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA) for 20 years, wearing many hats as time went on. In the declining years of her parents’ lives, she cared for them as well. Jody also raised her only daughter, Brandi, amidst the chaos. They were best friends to the end.
Jody is survived by her daughter, sisters Cindy Cortez and Pam Helms, brother Vernon Helms, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Jody’s legacy will be her caring for others; whether it be through her work, family or friendships. Her heart was her strength, her love was plentiful and she gave of it freely. In this terrible time of shock and sorrow, please hold that message close for her.
Jody was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Chris and Dennis Helms, and many other extended family members.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Sun’aq Tribe Bingo Hall. Please join us by bringing an appetizer or dessert and happy memories to share. Condolences may be sent to Brandi Wagner at PO Box 1605 in Kodiak. If you have any questions or would like to talk, please contact Brandi.
