FAIRBANKS — The West Valley boys cross country team and Lathrop’s Brooke Lizotte had outstanding efforts Saturday in the Concordia/Adidas Cross Country Classic at Fern Hill Park in Portland, Ore.
The West Valley boys, who won the Class 4A Alaska state cross country championship last month, earned a seventh-place finish among the more than 30 boys teams from throughout Oregon and Washington and Alaska competing in the Elite Varsity division.
“It’s real competitive and pretty intense for the kids,” said West Valley coach Dan Callahan. “A lot of the best teams in the Northwest were competing in the event.”
Noon led the Wolfpack with a 24th-place finish with a run of 15 minutes, 55 seconds on the 5-kilometer course. West Valley’s top five finishers finished a little more than a minute apart.
“You can tell how intense it is for the boys when there were more than 24 kids ran under 16 minutes,” Callahan said.
Other West Valley boys in the race and their times were: Kuba Grzeda in 16:13.5, Mikko Sayre in 16:18.5, Erich Hoefler in 16:44.2; Tristan Sayre in 17:05; and Sam Kendall in 17:45.2.
Lizotte finished 13th in the elite girls race but her time was not available Saturday evening. Lathrop had teams in the girls and boys elite races but those results were not available either.
Attempts to find the results on the Internet were not successful.
West Valley entered three girls in the varsity race and two in the junior varsity event.
Sarah Lilly led the Wolfpack in the varsity race, placing 21st in 20:24; Emma O’Connor finished in 22:34 and Hope Allen posted a 22:45.
Wolfpack junior varsity runners were Chael Simon in 24:22 and Makenna Johanson in 24:41. Johnson beat her previous personal best time by about 1 1/2 minutes, Callahan said.
