FAIRBANKS — The first board meeting for the recently formed municipal natural gas utility is slated to take place Tuesday afternoon.
The five members of what eventually will be a seven-member board of the Interior Alaska Natural Gas Utility will hold their first meeting at
3 p.m. in the borough chambers.
The first meeting is open to the public and largely will serve as a primer on open meetings laws as well as an overview of other municipal utilities that could be models for the new one.
The utility was formed to facilitate or provide, if necessary, distribution of affordable natural gas to homes and businesses in the Fairbanks North Star Borough.
Board members include University of Alaska Fairbanks Executive Officer Bob Shefchik, North Pole Director of City Services Bill Butler, former CEO of Golden Valley Electric Association Steve Haagenson, engineer Frank Abegg and longtime director of public works at Fort Wainwright Mike Meeks.
Borough Mayor Luke Hopkins has two remaining appointments, which he said he will appoint during a special meeting on Dec. 6.
